This is an exciting, newly-created position for our client in construction. The Director of Payroll & Benefits is a high-visibility role responsible for overseeing payroll while owning benefits, 401k, and all employee-related questions tied to pay, leave, and eligibility. You'll act as the go-to expert internally, working closely with leadership to bring structure to a function that currently sits within accounting.
This role is full-time on-site. Union experience is required.Client Details
Our client is long-established, family-owned firm operating in real estate development and construction, known for handling large, complex projects while keeping a relatively lean internal team. They run a very hands-on, operational environment where employees tend to wear multiple hats and work closely with leadership.
This is a unique, high-impact role designed for someone who wants to move beyond traditional payroll and benefits, and into full ownership of a critical business function. You'll oversee payroll at a high level while taking complete responsibility for benefits, 401k, and all employee-facing questions tied to compensation, leave, and eligibility. Instead of sitting in a silo, you'll be the central point of contact across the organization, working directly with leadership and having real influence over how processes are structured and executed.
On a day-to-day basis, you'll oversee everything feeding into payroll, ensuring accuracy around benefits, deductions, and any leave situations while partnering with the payroll team on execution. A large part of the role is employee-facing - answering questions around pay, benefits, disability, and time off - while also working with brokers and leadership to manage updates, troubleshoot issues, and keep processes running smoothly.
Qualified candidates will have deep knowledge of payroll in union environments, benefits strategy, experience working directly with benefit brokers and 401k providers, and in-depth experience advising employees on leave of absence, disability, and time-off policies.
