Director Of Nursing

Full time schedule ED

• Full Time 8:00am -5:00pm plus weekends and nights as required

Job Description

Develops and maintains Nursing Service philosophy, objectives, and standards of practice to ensure standards of Health Services excellence for the residents. In conduction with other disciplines, endeavors to assure that the multi-disciplinary plan of service is maintained.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS 

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a diploma or degree.
2. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
3. CPR/AED certification required.
4. At least 2 years of licensed nursing experience and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required.

Job Duties

1. Responsible for 24-hour clinical services of households and/or neighborhoods in memory support, assisted living, and Health Services.
2. Educates on clinical matters as needed in the household and neighborhood and serves as a clinical mentor to the clinical leaders for regulatory compliance, general operations, infection control, wound management, and team member education.
3. Advance Person-first culture change initiatives through learning circles, action teams, and concentric circles.
4. Ensure all clinical aspects of transitioning residents through the continuum of service are met.
5. Interviews and makes final selection of applicants for employment, responsible for the orientation, training, direction, and supervision of all nursing personnel.
6. Prepares work schedules and conducts job performance evaluations on Household and Neighborhood clinical leaders and supervisors. Makes recommendations regarding personnel status and appropriate staffing levels required within operating guidelines.
7. Selects, upon recommendation, personnel for transfer, promotion, and special training to ensure most effective utilization of individual skills and development.
8. Provides team member counseling, and when necessary, implements disciplinary action to correct unacceptable behavior, work performance or attendance. May recommend team member termination.
9. Makes daily rounds for supervision of service, resident status, environment, and safety and submits reports weekly to Associate Executive Director. Works with Household/Neighborhood clinical leaders daily on clinical practice being conducted.
10. Ensures clinical practice is being performed through established routines and in compliance with community procedures and governmental regulations.
11. Meets with Health Services team members monthly. Develops and maintains good team building techniques in Health Services with nurses and Household/Neighborhood clinical leaders.
12. Budget planning and implementation within the established fiscal guidelines of the approved budgets. Maintains inventory control of supplies and submits purchase orders to Associate Executive Director.
13. Directs and coordinates nursing practices toward restoring and maintaining a holistic approach to meet residents’ entire physical, emotional, behavioral, psychological, familial, spiritual, social, and nutritional needs.
14. Ensures that the MDS and care plans are written and revised according to State and Federal regulations for all residents.
15. Ensures that all operating policies and procedures are followed and comply with Federal and State regulations.
16. Acts as liaison between Physicians, Rehab, Pharmacy and Nursing team members.
17. Coordinates an ongoing in-service education program for the nursing team members with MDS Coordinator. Attends mandatory in-service and completes Relias Learning in-services assigned.
18. Checks residents’ medical records periodically for accuracy according to Federal and State regulations.
19. Effectively coordinates nursing services with medical, rehabilitation, social services, dining services and activities programs.
20. Evaluates environmental safety and recommends changes when applicable.
21. Actively participates in Resident Care Conferences, Pharmaceutical Committee, Infection Control Committee and Continuous Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI).
22. Works with Social Services, the community Coordinator Resident Services, residents, families, and nursing team members to coordinate a smooth transfer from independent living community into Health Services. Interviews and assesses all applicants for admissions into Health Services.
23. Oversees all software programs utilized in Health Services.
24. All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Mastery practical knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within nursing. Has in-depth conceptual and practical experience.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
3. Acquired specialized knowledge of disease processes and treatments.
4. Ability to hear, see and smell.
5. Ability to read, write and communicate using the English language,
6. Ability to manage a the clinical team and work with all other operating departments.

SUPERVISION and Decision Making EXERCISED

1. Little to no supervision – works independently, using strong independent judgement and receives little to no guidance.
2. Decision-making is typically very difficult. Most alternatives that are considered are not covered by standard operating procedures and have comparable value. Decision making sometimes requires making predictions regarding the long-term impact of the decisions.
3. Problem solving is typically complex in nature and utilized when needed. Ability to use senior level expertise to resolve issues and coach and lead managers and the Assistant Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

1. May include frequent lifting (up to 50lbs).
2. Extensive walking, bending, stooping, standing.
3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks.
4. Ability to work inside and outside to effectively make rounds daily throughout the facility and to respond to problems and emergencies.
5. Universal staffing. Flexible schedule as working evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather is required to meet the needs of the job.
6. Exposure to the sights, sounds, and odors of a typical heath care environment including persons with dementia.
