JOB GOAL:

The Director of Middle Schools provides administrative oversight, strategic leadership

and instructional support for middle schools. This individual will provide leadership,

guidance, coaching and support to middle school principals and assistant principals to

drive student achievement and ensure the implementation of district curriculum,

policies and procedures. This position focuses on building student-centered middle

school environments and focuses on bridging the gap between elementary foundations

and high school rigor, ensuring that school cultures prioritize adolescent development,

student voice and choice, and the mastery of grade-level standards in a supportive,

growth-oriented atmosphere. Working under the Chief of Schools and Staff, the Director

serves as a critical bridge between the district's central office and the daily operations

of middle schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Member of School Leadership Team

  2. Supervision and Evaluation: Conduct regular observations and evaluations of

assigned school principals to assess their performance in various areas,

including instructional leadership, school management, and community

engagement.

  1. Professional Development: Design and implement professional development

programs and training sessions tailored to the needs of individual principals and

assistant principals, aimed at enhancing their leadership skills, instructional

practices, and decision-making abilities. This position will work with the Chief of

Schools and Staff to lead monthly principal meetings and will take the lead role

on facilitating monthly middle school assistant principal meetings.

  1. Coaching and Mentoring: Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to

principals and assistant principals, offering constructive feedback, guidance, and

support to help them address challenges, overcome obstacles, and achieve their

professional goals.

  1. Residency Affidavits: Coordinate middle school residency verification issues

with site registrars and administrators. Receive and review residency requests

and maintain residency database systems. Compile information and maintain a

variety of records and logs related to home visits and assigned activities. Prepare

all materials related to residency verification and assist with the registration

process at the District office. Develop procedures, protocols and prioritization for

residency checks.

  1. Student Transfers: Manage and complete the transfer application process for

middle school intra and inter-district transfers. Final decision maker for secondary

transfer requests and responsible for all communication to families related to

transfers. Prepare and report transfer capacity numbers to the Board of

Education.

  1. Attendance: Coordinate and support schools with attendance compliance and

adherence to the district attendance policies. Maintain collaboration with the

Edmond Police Department related to truancy and attendance expectations.

  1. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with district leadership to develop and

implement strategic plans and initiatives that align with the goals and objectives

of the school district, ensuring that principals are equipped to lead effectively in

line with these priorities.

  1. Policy Implementation: Ensure that principals are knowledgeable about and

compliant with district policies, procedures, and regulations, providing guidance

and clarification as needed to support their adherence to established standards.

  1. Data Analysis: Analyze performance data, academic outcomes, and other

relevant metrics to identify areas for improvement and inform decision-making

processes aimed at enhancing school effectiveness and student achievement

with specific attention to math and literacy readiness.

  1. Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians,

community members, and other stakeholders, serving as a liaison between

principals and the broader community to promote transparency, collaboration,

and mutual understanding.

  1. Crisis Management: Provide leadership and support to principals and assistant

principals in navigating crisis situations, emergencies, or other challenging

circumstances, ensuring that appropriate protocols are followed and effective

communication strategies are employed.

  1. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with district

administrators, school board members, and other stakeholders to promote a

cohesive and supportive educational environment, while also maintaining open

and transparent communication channels with principals.

  1. Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of current trends, best practices, and

research in educational leadership and administration, continuously seeking

opportunities for professional growth and improvement to enhance the

effectiveness of principal supervision and support.

  1. Event Attendance: Attendance at middle school evening events as assigned by

the Chief of Schools and Staff.

  1. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS): Assists the Director of Student

Services in facilitating and ensuring consistent implementation of MTSS practices

and procedures in all middle schools.

  1. Athletics: Coordinate with the District Athletic Director to implement effective

operating systems and record keeping for high school athletics.

  1. Vertical Alignment: Collaborate with the Director of Elementary and the Director

of High Schools to create seamless transitions for students and

parents/guardians.

  1. Other Duties as Assigned: Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of

Schools & Staff.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:

Two hundred and forty (240) contract days.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Chief of Schools and Staff in

accordance with the provisions of the Edmond School Board's policies and State Law of

Oklahoma.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the organization, administration, and supervision of assigned middle

school principals or programs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid administrative certification/license

? Previous experience as a school principal or in a related leadership role

? Demonstrated success in instructional leadership, school management, and

personnel supervision

? Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills

? Ability to analyze data, make data-driven decisions, and implement

evidence-based practices

? Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and regulations governing education

? Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education

? Ability to travel between school sites within the district as needed

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

? Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the area of curriculum

and/or administration or other relevant field required. Doctoral degree preferred.

? Minimum of three (3) years of current school administration experience and/or

central office experience required.

? Minimum of three (3) years as a building principal required.

? Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a teacher in public

schools.

? Central office leadership experience or equivalent education, training, and

relevant professional experience are also considered.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional

journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports,

business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present

information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general

public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain

accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of

position.

REASONING SKILLS:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or

diagram form and deal with several abstract and/or concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The ability to lead a large, diverse organization is such a manner as to promote high

performance, efficiency and quality throughout the organization, in such a fashion as to

foster a work climate in which employees' self-work is recognized.

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies need to
