Our client, a world market leader in industrial 3D printing, is seeking a Director of Metals Technology, to provide technical leadership and operational guidance for its Metals division. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, this role is responsible for driving growth across the Metals and R&D organizations by aligning technical execution with corporate strategy. The position oversees the North America Metals R&D team while collaborating closely with the global CTO organization to manage a portfolio of R&D and product development projects in line with company priorities.


This leader will define and deploy technology roadmaps, recommend R&D strategy to senior management, and lead internal and external development initiatives, including material development in partnership with customers, suppliers, and academic institutions. The role also serves as a key technical ambassador for our client, representing the organization at standards development organizations, industry and academic associations, and international conferences. In addition, the Director will manage operating and capital budgets for the metals R&D and other company teams, ensuring technical excellence, fiscal discipline, and timely delivery of innovation.

Beyond technical leadership, the position carries significant people and customer-facing responsibilities. The Director will recruit, develop, and evaluate a high-performing, globally minded team; identify customers requiring advanced additive manufacturing support; and lead the design and execution of consulting engagements. Close collaboration with sales, key account management, business development, technology management, and product management is essential to support the broader market and sales strategy. Extensive domestic and international travel is required to support customers, partners, and global stakeholders while advancing our client's leadership in metal additive manufacturing.

Key Points:

Entrepreneurial, self-starter, customer facing, self-motivated with a background in project management, business development, Laser Powder Bed Fusion knowledge / experience, metal AM material knowledge, and applications, negotiation skills on projects that range from $250K - $1M, engineering background/education; Masters preferred; PhD a plus! This person will manage a team of approximately 15+ engineers and should have recent experience in that regard.

Residency in the Greater Austin Texas area will be required, and relocation assistance will be considered. All candidates must be US persons and currently reside in the US. This is an ITAR regulated facility. The compensation package offers a base salary and a significant bonus structure. Approximately 50% travel domestically and to Europe.
