Director of Maintenance

Position Summary
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings, equipment, and grounds across the community. This role partners closely with other departments to ensure a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, direct, and supervise maintenance operations for buildings and grounds
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments to support daily operations
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, systems, buildings, and grounds to ensure safety and compliance
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual budget and monitor monthly performance
  • Maintain an effective work order system to ensure timely response to repair requests
  • Assign duties, evaluate team performance, and oversee vendor billing and invoices
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to address after-hours maintenance needs

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with residents, families, and staff
  • Ability to develop departmental goals and ensure compliance with HR and regulatory standards
  • Experience overseeing maintenance operations, including buildings and grounds
  • Ability to manage staff, schedules, and emergency response systems

Preferred:

  • At least 5 years of experience in plant engineering or skilled trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, etc.)
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience
