Responsibilities of a Director of Life Enrichment:

  • Supervises and supports the life enrichment team and directs the day to day activities of life enrichment coordinators in the spirit of Brooke Grove Retirement Village mission statement to touch people's lives.
  • Promotes optimal daily living for residents by fostering an environment that allows them the freedom to make independent decisions, contribute ideas, and build self- esteem.
  • Plans, prepares, and develops a variety of meaningful activities for assisted living residents.
  • Creates and posts the monthly calendar of events and markets the events to the residents, families and staff. This includes ensuring that monthly calendars and all other promotional materials are clear, visually appealing, with consideration for readability and accessibility for residents and their families.
  • Leads groups, clubs, and events as needed in the absence of life enrichment coordinators.
  • Coordinates and secures appropriate contracted entertainers and vendors for programs and events. Negotiates performance fees in alignment with departmental budget while fostering and maintaining positive, professional relationships to ensure ongoing collaboration and goodwill. Requesting and processing invoices for submission to the accounting department. Ensuring entertainers and vendors are compensated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Drives bus to transport residents to and from recreational trips, tours, on campus events and outings; and complies with local traffic and safety regulations.
  • Has a fondness for pets, and an understanding of the healing power of pets. He/She will ensure that pets records are maintained up to date as required by the Montgomery County Health Department. The LED will ensure live-in pets are cared for and their areas are kept clean. This includes scheduling and attending veterinary appointments as needed.
  • Performs quality assurance audits as scheduled and presents reports during Quality Assurance meetings and follows up on quality assurance issues.

Requirements of a Director of Life Enrichment:

  • High school diploma along with three to six months related experience and/or training as a recreational activity assistant; or equivalent combinations of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as basic instructions, safety manuals, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine memos, reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, family, visitors, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and assure effective follow through of programming in a timely manner.
  • Have the ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations involving variables, and in standardized situations.
  • Must have a valid drivers' license, current CPR and First Aid Training
