About the Opportunity:

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced Director of IT for Dallas-based client who will play a critical leadership role in transforming and stabilizing the organization’s technology environment across a growing multi-site healthcare platform. IT is viewed as a strategic value driver for the business, and this role will focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening cybersecurity, and establishing governance across a currently fragmented technology landscape.  This position will lead efforts to standardize systems, improve vendor accountability, reduce operational friction at the clinic-level, and introduce data-driven IT management practices. Success will be measured by stronger processes, improved security posture, clearer performance metrics, and the elimination of redundant or inefficient systems—not by hands-on technical execution.  The Director of IT will serve as the organization’s primary technology leader responsible for strategy, oversight, and operational effectiveness.

Candidates must pass a criminal background check and drug screen and be legally authorized to work in the United States, as our client is unable to sponsor at this time.

Vaco is not seeking CTC support for this employment opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

IT Leadership & Vendor Management
  • Serve as the primary technology leader responsible for IT governance, strategy execution, and operational oversight.
  • Manage the IT landscape service function that enhances the experience of patients, providers, and internal teams.
  • Manage and oversee the organization’s Managed Service Provider (MSP) relationship in addition to other 3rd party services providers.
  • Hold external vendors accountable for service quality, security standards, and contractual performance.
  • Evaluate current technology spend and vendor structure to determine whether investments are aligned with business priorities.
  • Assess opportunities to rebalance resources between external vendors and internal capabilities.
  • Bring order, visibility, and accountability to the IT environment while enabling the business to scale efficiently.

Cybersecurity Oversight
  • Establish a clear vision for the organization’s cybersecurity posture and define measurable security standards.
  • Implement governance, controls, and monitoring processes to ensure appropriate protection of HIPAA and PII-regulated data.
  • Provide leadership oversight of cybersecurity programs currently managed through the MSP.
  • Develop and track security metrics to monitor risk exposure and improvement over time.

Process Development & Standardization
  • Drive a process-oriented approach to IT operations through documentation, standard operating procedures, and system governance.
  • Document key workflows, systems, and operational practices across the IT environment.
  • Reduce complexity and system fragmentation across multiple clinic locations.
  • Support integration and standardization as the organization grows through acquisitions or expansion.

Metrics-Driven IT Management
  • Establish clear KPIs and dashboards to manage IT performance and vendor accountability.
  • Track and report on metrics including:
    • MSP service performance
    • System availability and reliability
    • Cybersecurity indicators and risk posture
  • Use data and operational metrics to prioritize improvement initiatives and guide decision-making.

Application & Systems Oversight
  • Provide oversight of the organization’s technology ecosystem, including core business applications and analytics platforms.
  • Evaluate opportunities for system consolidation, optimization, and cost efficiency across the technology stack.
  • Key systems include:
    • Practice Management System
    • Data Warehouse (Snowflake)
    • Business Intelligence Platform
  • Collaborate with external BI consultants and internal finance leadership on reporting and analytics capabilities.

Team Structure & Reporting
  • Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Initial direct report: Practice Management Specialist responsible for training, access management, system upgrades, and implementations.
  • The Managed Service Provider (MSP) operates under the direction of this role, in addition to a co-managed third-party Business Intelligence service provider
  • Opportunity to assess and evolve the IT organizational structure as systems and priorities mature.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required
  • 8+ years of experience in IT leadership, IT operations management, or technology governance roles.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors, managed service providers, or outsourced IT environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement process improvement, governance, and operational metrics within IT organizations.
  • Strong understanding of IT risk management and cybersecurity oversight principles.
  • Experience managing technology environments across multi-site operationalorganizations.
  • Strong bonus for candidates with prior merger and acquisitions (M&A) integrations experience, systems standardization, and/or practice onboarding
  • Experience supporting healthcare or regulated environments, including familiarity with HIPAA or Personal Identifiable Information (PII) protections.
      • Strong bonus for prior experience leading IT landscapes for multi-site Dental practice operations.
