POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Insights is responsible for owning greater:SATX’s data, analytics, and insights capability, serving as both the technical authority for the organization’s data center of excellence and the primary translator of complex analysis into clear, actionable insights.
This role designs, builds, and evolves the organization’s data and analytics stack, develops sophisticated analyses and forecasts, and ensures insights are framed in ways that inform business decisions, strategy, and marketing direction. The Director of Insights partners closely with executive leadership and the VP of Marketing & Insights to ensure data-driven insights can be translated into business action, marketing materials, investor communications, and regional storytelling.
This is a hands-on role during a critical phase of data maturity. While the Director provides technical and analytical leadership to others, this position is expected to personally develop complex analyses and own the integrity, structure, and usability of the organization’s analytics ecosystem.
Analytics & Insights Leadership
- Lead the development of high-impact analysis that informs economic development strategy, investment decisions, and organizational priorities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members contributing to analytics and reporting.
- Translate complex data into clear, concise, and actionable insights for executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Frame insights around implications, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership by providing decision-ready insights that improve prioritization and clarity.
- Help build a scalable insights capability over time, including supporting self-service analytics as appropriate.
Analysis, Modeling & Forecasting
- Develop and maintain analytical models related to:
- Economic pipeline performance (projects, jobs, capital investment)
- Workforce and talent supply
- Industry and sector trends
- Organizational performance and investor outcomes
- Conduct scenario-based and forward-looking analysis to support planning and risk assessment.
- Integrate internal and external data sources (Salesforce, financial data, workforce data, industry data) into cohesive analytical frameworks.
Data Utilization & Collaboration
- Partner with the COO on the use of the organization’s data platform (Microsoft Fabric, Power BI) to ensure data is structured and leveraged effectively for analysis.
- Utilize existing data pipelines, warehouse structures, and datasets to build scalable and repeatable analytical outputs.
- Establish and maintain analytical standards to ensure consistency, accuracy, and credibility of insights.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure analytics align with business needs while maintaining methodological consistency.
Executive Communication & Storytelling
- Distill complex analysis into compelling narratives, visuals, and recommendations tailored to executive and non-technical audiences.
- Support the development of:
- Executive briefings
- Investor communications
- Marketing materials and regional storytelling
- Ensure insights are presented in a way that drives action and informs decisions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 7+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data science, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on analytical capability, including:
- Data analysis and modeling
- Forecasting and scenario analysis
- Use of modern analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Python preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for business or strategy audiences.
- Strong analytical judgment and ability to connect data to business drivers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience working with economic, workforce, or industry data.
- Experience supporting executive leadership or strategy functions.
- Experience in consulting, economic development, corporate strategy, or analytics-driven organizations.

Work Environment:
This is a flexible work environment which includes both in-office attendance and the ability to work from home as business needs allow. This role requires significant time in the office or attending in-person meetings. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, and multi-functioning printer. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours work/travel may be required.
