Job Summary:

Mavo Systems is seeking a Director of Finance to join our leadership team as a key, on-site partner to both executive leadership and operations. This role is critical to ensuring the financial health and operational success of the business.

This individual will work closely with the President and collaborate daily with operations teams to ensure projects remain on schedule, financially aligned, and positioned for success. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in finance within the construction or contracting industry and thrives in a hands-on, highly collaborative environment.

This is an on-site leadership role, requiring a visible presence and active engagement with both the accounting team and field operations.

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting and finance functions, including AR, AP, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management
  • Partner closely with operations to monitor project performance, ensuring alignment between financials and project timelines
  • Collaborate directly with the President on financial strategy, business planning, and day-to-day operations
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes, including annual operating and capital budgets
  • Maintain and enhance construction accounting practices, including WIP reporting, percentage of completion, and job costing analysis
  • Ensure strong cash flow management aligned with operational needs
  • Develop and implement financial controls, systems, and best practices to support a scalable and disciplined organization
  • Foster clear communication between finance and operations, translating financial data into actionable insights
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements
  • Analyze business performance, identify trends, and recommend strategies for growth and cost optimization
  • Oversee union payroll processes and related benefit structures
  • Lead and develop the accounting team (2 direct reports; 12 indirect reports)
  • Manage financial systems and support continuous improvement of financial technology and reporting tools

Requirements and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5–10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting leadership roles
  • Proven experience in the construction or specialty contracting industry
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including WIP, job costing, and project-based financial management
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with operations teams
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail

 

Preferred Requirements and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA strongly preferred; CMA or MBA a plus
  • Background in public accounting (regional firm experience preferred)
