Overview

The Director of Finance & Accounting is the company’s senior financial leader and strategic partner to the CEO. This role is responsible for building and leading the financial infrastructure required to support disciplined growth in a working capital intensive, inventory based consumer products company.

The Director oversees financial strategy, cash management, cost accounting, inventory valuation, budgeting, and enterprise financial systems governance. This leader ensures financial accuracy, margin discipline, liquidity protection, and scalable reporting frameworks that provide clear visibility into company performance.

This is both a strategic and hands on leadership role operating in a founder led growth environment.

Financial Strategy and Leadership

  • Serve as senior financial advisor to the CEO
  • Build scalable financial processes and reporting structures to support company growth
  • Develop forward looking financial analysis to guide strategic decisions
  • Establish strong financial discipline and accountability across departments
  • Strengthen the financial foundation of the company to support long term scale

Cash Flow and Working Capital Management

  • Own short term and long-term cash flow forecasting
  • Ensure sufficient liquidity to fund inventory purchases, production runs, and marketing investment
  • Optimize working capital including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory management
  • Model the financial impact of sourcing decisions, production timing, and vendor terms
  • Provide scenario modeling for growth, margin shifts, and supply chain variability

Cost Accounting and Inventory Leadership

  • Oversee standard costing, variance analysis, and production cost modeling
  • Ensure accurate landed cost allocation including freight, duties, and production inputs
  • Maintain accurate inventory accounting and valuation
  • Drive gross margin visibility by SKU, channel, and customer
  • Partner closely with Supply Chain and Operations to ensure scalable margin structure
  • Ensure cost of goods sold integrity and financial statement accuracy

Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts
  • Implement departmental budget to actual accountability
  • Develop KPI dashboards tied to financial and operational performance
  • Create board ready reporting frameworks aligned with financial results

Accounting and Compliance

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Maintain GAAP compliance and strong internal controls
  • Manage external CPA relationships and tax filings
  • Establish and document financial policies and procedures that support scale
  • Ensure audit readiness and reporting integrity

Enterprise Systems and IT Oversight

  • Serve as executive owner of NetSuite financial architecture
  • Ensure financial dashboards reconcile to financial statements
  • Oversee system permissions and data governance standards
  • Supervise IT Manager to ensure secure, reliable infrastructure
  • Drive system optimization aligned with financial accuracy and reporting discipline

Required Experience:
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
  • Required experience in CPG, consumer products, manufacturing, or inventory intensive businesses
  • Deep expertise in cost accounting and inventory valuation
  • Advanced NetSuite expertise required
  • Strong experience managing cash flow in working capital intensive environments
  • Proven ability to build financial processes and infrastructure from the ground up
  • Experience leading accounting teams and enterprise systems
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong executive presence and ability to partner closely with a founder led organization
