Center Grove Schools is hiring a Director of Facilities to oversee facilities maintenance and grounds in our school corporation. The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven and service-oriented leader who empowers and develops a high-performing facilities team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and pride in service. They balance strong operational expertise with a forward-thinking approach, working in partnership with staff, administrators, and the community to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality learning environments that support Center Grove's mission of providing an exceptional educational experience for every student.

Minimum Qualifications and Credentials Required:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in facilities maintenance, operations, or a related environment.
  • Proven leadership ability with a strong commitment to team development, accountability, and customer service.
  • Proficiency in technology applications relevant to facilities management, including work order systems, data tracking, and communication tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with staff, administrators, contractors, and the community.
  • Working knowledge of school district operations, procedures, and the unique facility demands of a K-12 environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety regulations, building systems, and maintenance best practices preferred.
  • Valid Indiana Driver's License required

Essential Functions:

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the district's facilities operations, including maintenance, custodial services, grounds, and construction, ensuring safe, efficient, and well-maintained learning environments.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive long-range facilities master plan and capital improvement program aligned with district enrollment trends, instructional priorities, and community expectations.
  • Direct and supervise maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel, including recruiting, training, assigning, evaluating performance, and fostering a culture of accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all construction, renovation, and capital projects from design through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor departmental budgets, including operational and capital expenditures, and provide recommendations for long-term financial planning related to facilities and infrastructure.
  • Prepare and present reports, data, and recommendations to the Associate Superintendent, Superintendent, and Board of School Trustees regarding facilities operations, capital planning, and long-term infrastructure needs.
  • Develop bid specifications, evaluate proposals, negotiate and administer contracts, and oversee the performance of vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA, AHERA, environmental requirements, accessibility standards (ADA), and building and fire codes.
  • Lead and coordinate district-wide emergency preparedness and response related to facilities, including planning, training, and collaboration with safety and administrative teams for incidents such as severe weather, utility failures, and safety threats.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor comprehensive preventive maintenance programs and inspection processes to extend the life of district assets and ensure operational reliability.
  • Implement data-driven decision-making practices by developing and monitoring key performance indicators (e.g., work order response time, maintenance costs, energy usage) to improve efficiency, service delivery, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee and coordinate custodial services to ensure all district facilities meet established standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and readiness for instructional and extracurricular activities.
  • Direct grounds maintenance operations, including athletic fields, landscaping, and seasonal responsibilities such as snow removal, ensuring safe and visually appealing campuses.
  • Collaborate with instructional and operational leaders to align facility use, space planning, and project design with educational programming and student needs.
  • Develop and implement energy management and sustainability initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, reducing operational costs, and minimizing environmental impact.
  • Monitor and manage facility-related systems, including security access, fire alarm systems, mechanical systems, and other critical infrastructure, ensuring proper operation and compliance with inspection requirements.
  • Support district risk management efforts by identifying potential facility-related liabilities, coordinating with insurance and safety personnel, and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate and support facility needs for district events, programs, and activities in collaboration with internal departments and community partners.
  • Remain current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies related to school facilities management and incorporate them into district operations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Superintendent.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physical labor without restriction, such as bending, lifting, stooping, and carrying objects
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and work at heights over three (3) feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to operate manual and powered equipment without restrictions
