Position Details

Summary / Objective

The Director of Facilities and Maintenance at Grandville Calvin Christian Schools (GCCS) is responsible for ensuring that all buildings and grounds are used to support the mission of GCCS. This role requires broad knowledge of facility operations, strong mechanical and maintenance skills, and a commitment to excellence in appearance, safety, and functionality.

The Director provides leadership in maintaining all GCCS properties, oversees staff and contractors, and manages budgets related to facilities and grounds. This position requires technical expertise, organizational ability, strong interpersonal skills, and a servant-hearted approach rooted in a commitment to God and others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation, safety, and upkeep of all GCCS buildings, grounds, and properties.
  • Partner with principals, the Head of School, and other administrators to ensure facilities are well-maintained and fully functional.
  • Supervise and schedule custodial staff, ensuring clean and welcoming learning environments.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including lawn care, snow removal, and other service agreements.
  • Monitor and maintain building systems and equipment; perform hands-on repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Develop and manage the facilities budget, including contracts, maintenance costs, and capital improvement planning.
  • Participate directly in custodial work when needed, including routine cleaning, special projects, and coverage during staff absences.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Competencies

  • Strong mechanical and maintenance skills; ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction and facility systems (preferred).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role combines office responsibilities with hands-on maintenance work. The position requires regular physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting, and using tools and equipment. Clear communication-both written and verbal-is essential.

Position Details

  • This role can expect an average of 50 hours per week.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required as needed.
  • Primarily local; occasional out-of-area or overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of relevant facilities, maintenance, or construction experience (preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and technology tools.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
