Director of Environmental Safety & Health (EH&S)

Summary/Objective:
The Director of Safety & Compliance provides strategic and operational leadership for Compu Dynamics' enterprise-wide Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program. This role is responsible for integrating safety into the planning, execution, and culture of all business units and markets, ensuring regulatory compliance, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement. The Director leads the development and execution of a comprehensive safety strategy, champions innovation, and fosters a culture of safety as a core business value across the organization.

1. Site Safety & Compliance
  • Develop and implement a companywide safety strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals and client requirements.
  • Establish, oversee, and continuously improve the Safety Management System, including SSSP, PTP, and JHA standards, as well as audit cadence.
  • Lead, coach, and support regional and project-level safety personnel while evaluating emerging hazards and technologies.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to hold project teams accountable for safety performance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure enterprise-wide compliance with OSHA, state, and local EHS requirements as well as client-specific standards.
2. Training & Development
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive safety training framework for employees and subcontractors, establishing clear competency expectations.
  • Oversee safety certification programs (e.g., OSHA 10/30, Competent Person, CPR/First Aid) and verify completions and renewals.
  • Mentor and develop Safety Managers and Coordinators, building a strong and empowered field-facing safety organization.
  • Track and report leading-indicator training goals, including toolbox talk quality, engagement, and supervisor participation.
3. Incident Response & Investigation
  • Oversee all serious incident and near-miss investigations and root cause analyses (RCA), ensuring standardized processes and effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Coordinate with HR and Risk Management on workers' compensation, claims, and return-to-work processes.
  • Ensure timely regulatory notifications and reporting requirements are met; conduct executive-level reviews of significant events.
  • Lead enterprise-wide lessons-learned dissemination and integrate insights from RCAs into program updates.
4. Policy, Program & Administrative Support
  • Own and continuously update all EHS policies, manuals, and procedures to reflect evolving regulations, client standards, and industry best practices.
  • Manage corporate EHS systems, document control, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and digital tools for inspections, reporting, and analytics.
  • Oversee PPE standards, selection, and procurement, aligning budgets and resources with strategic priorities.
  • Champion the adoption and implementation of technology to enhance mobile inspections, analytics, and safety dashboards.
5. Communication & Engagement
  • Lead annual and quarterly safety summits, stand-downs, and executive safety briefings.
  • Partner with Communications and HR to develop awareness campaigns, recognition programs, and internal messaging initiatives.
  • Represent Compu Dynamics with clients, industry groups, and regulatory agencies, positioning the company as a safety leader.
  • Maintain open communication channels between field teams, operations leadership, and senior management to resolve safety issues promptly.
6. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Define, track, and analyze enterprise-wide safety metrics, including leading and lagging indicators such as observations, training compliance, audit closeouts, TRIR, and DART.
  • Publish quarterly and annual safety performance reports, including insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Benchmark against industry peers and lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and strengthen safety culture.
  • Integrate emerging technologies and innovative practices into the company's EHS program roadmap.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position oversees safety leadership personnel across all regions and projects and is responsible for developing and mentoring the safety organization.

Work Environment:
This position operates in both office and field environments and may involve exposure to construction sites, potentially hazardous materials, and varying weather conditions. Standard PPE and safety protocols are required.

Travel:
Travel is required within Compu Dynamics' market regions and occasionally beyond for site visits, audits, leadership meetings, and industry events.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, or lift up to 20 pounds. The role requires the ability to traverse active construction sites, wear required PPE for extended periods, and respond quickly to on-site incidents or emergencies.
Position Type:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Hours may vary based on operational needs and project requirements.

Required Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in construction; mission-critical/data center or electrical experience preferred.
  3. Demonstrated success leading enterprise-level safety programs and teams.
  4. Deep knowledge of safety regulations, risk management practices, and industry standards.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  1. Master's degree in a related field.
  2. Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or CSHO.
