Director of Emergency Services

Location: San Antonio, TX
Schedule: Full-Time | Days | No Weekends

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $145,000 – $160,000 (based on experience)
  • Incentive Bonus: 17.5% – 26.25%
  • Relocation Assistance: Up to $15,000

Position Summary

The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic and operational leadership for a fast-paced Emergency Department, ensuring delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This leader will oversee clinical operations, staffing, quality initiatives, financial performance, and employee engagement while fostering a collaborative and accountable culture.

Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director will lead a team of approximately 100 Emergency Services professionals, including managers, charge nurses, EMS technicians, and clinical support staff.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily Emergency Department operations and nursing practice
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care
  • Drive patient throughput and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and best practices
  • Coordinate staffing and patient flow based on departmental needs

Patient Experience & Quality

  • Lead initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and service excellence
  • Promote a culture of accountability, communication, and compassion
  • Utilize quality metrics and patient feedback to enhance care delivery
  • Support evidence-based practices and patient safety initiatives

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and develop Emergency Services leaders and staff
  • Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional growth
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment
  • Identify educational and training opportunities for staff development

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
  • Monitor staffing productivity, labor management, and departmental expenses
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost savings
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and physicians on growth strategies

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current RN licensure
  • Emergency Services leadership experience
  • Strong operational and team leadership skills

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree
  • 3+ years of progressive Emergency Services leadership experience
  • Experience managing high-volume Emergency Departments
  • Trauma or acute care leadership background
