ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION - Antipated Opening

Title of Position: Director of District Operations

Work Year: Twelve (12) Months

Effective Date of Employment: 2026-2027 School Year

Salary: $120,000 to $140,000

Position Summary

The Director of District Operations serves as a key member of the Superintendent''s Operational Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership, coordination, and support for district-wide operational functions that advance teaching, learning, and student success.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, the Director serves as a strategic operational partner to the Business Office and district leadership team, supporting the planning, coordination, monitoring, and continuous improvement of district-wide operational systems and services. The position works collaboratively with school leaders, department directors, municipal partners, vendors, and community stakeholders to ensure operational functions are efficient, responsive, and aligned with the district''s strategic priorities.

The Director serves as a visible presence throughout the district, helping to identify operational challenges, facilitate communication across departments, monitor service delivery, and support the successful implementation of district initiatives. This role combines educational leadership with business and operational management expertise to enhance organizational effectiveness, improve service delivery, and support high-performing schools.

Essential Functions

Strategic District Leadership & Operations

• In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer and the Central Office leadership team, provide district-wide operational expertise and recommendations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Coordinate cross-functional operational initiatives that improve efficiency, service quality, and organizational effectiveness across district departments.
• Assist the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer in developing, implementing, and monitoring operational performance measures and service standards.
• Conduct regular visits to schools and district facilities to identify operational needs, assess service delivery, and support the consistent implementation of district expectations.
• Collaborate with principals, department leaders, and the Business Office to proactively identify and address operational challenges impacting school performance.
• Facilitate communication and coordination among district departments, vendors, municipal agencies, and community partners to support effective district operations.
• Prepare reports, analyses, and recommendations for the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer and district leadership regarding operational priorities, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate special projects and operational initiatives as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer or Superintendent.
• Support district-wide strategic initiatives by ensuring operational systems, resources, and services effectively align with instructional and organizational goals.

Facilities, Grounds & Environmental Quality

• In conjunction with the Facilities Department, Business Office, and school-based leadership, monitor and evaluate district-wide facilities, custodial services, and grounds maintenance to support safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained learning environments.
• Conduct routine facility assessments and communicate findings to Facilities and Maintenance leadership for prioritization and follow-up.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and Facilities personnel to track and support the resolution of identified operational concerns.
• Monitor grounds maintenance, landscaping, athletic fields, and outdoor spaces, and provide recommendations for improvement to appropriate district personnel.
• Support the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer and Facilities leadership in long-range facilities planning, asset management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist in identifying facility-related operational needs and opportunities that support district goals and enhance the educational environment.

Capital Projects & MSBA Coordination

• In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer and Business Office staff, serve as the district''s operational liaison for Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) projects and other capital improvement initiatives.
• Assist in monitoring project timelines, milestones, compliance requirements, and stakeholder communications to support successful project implementation.
• Coordinate communication among architects, contractors, consultants, municipal officials, and district stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
• Maintain project documentation, reporting systems, and records to support compliance with MSBA and district requirements.
• Support district leadership in planning and executing capital investments that advance the district''s strategic priorities.
• Assist in ensuring that project activities are coordinated effectively with school operations and district stakeholders.

Transportation Services

• In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, transportation providers, and school administrators, support the delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services.
• Monitor transportation operations, including arrival and dismissal procedures, routing efficiencies, and compliance with district expectations, and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Analyze transportation performance data and assist district leadership in evaluating service effectiveness and operational efficiency.
• Serve as a liaison between the district and transportation vendors to facilitate communication and resolution of operational concerns.
• Coordinate transportation logistics for special programs, field trips, district events, and other operational needs in conjunction with school and district administrators.
• Support district efforts to improve transportation safety, communication, and customer service.

Food Services

• In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, Business Office, and Food Services leadership, support district food service operations to ensure high-quality, efficient, and student-centered meal programs.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor service quality, customer experience, and operational effectiveness, and share findings with district leadership.
• Collaborate with school leaders, students, families, and food service personnel to identify opportunities for program improvement.
• Coordinate stakeholder feedback initiatives and food service satisfaction surveys in conjunction with Food Services leadership.
• Assist with the coordination of food truck and supplemental meal service programs in partnership with school administrators and food service staff.
• Support efforts to improve participation, customer satisfaction, and overall service quality across district food service programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree in Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Operations Management, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field required.
• Master''s degree in Educational Leadership, Business Administration, Public Administration, Operations Management, School Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in school administration, district operations, business management, facilities management, municipal administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated success supporting complex operational functions, managing cross-departmental initiatives, and driving organizational improvement.
• Experience working within public education, municipal government, or similarly complex organizations preferred.
• Strong leadership, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with administrators, staff, families, community partners, and external agencies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems; experience with school district or municipal management systems preferred.
• Valid Massachusetts driver''s license and ability to travel regularly among district facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a school administrator, district administrator, business manager, operations director, facilities director, or comparable leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience balancing educational leadership with operational or business management responsibilities.
• Experience managing capital projects, school construction initiatives, or MSBA-funded projects.
• Knowledge of school district operations, budgeting, facilities management, transportation systems, public procurement practices, and organizational effectiveness strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives, foster continuous improvement, and support high-performing organizational cultures.
