The Design Director will collaborate closely with executives to develop, implement, and execute monthly design plans. The role demands a deep understanding of key productivity and sales metrics, with an emphasis on clear communication of progress. The ideal candidate is an innovative leader with a passion for fashion and a comprehensive knowledge of industry trends.Major Responsibilities: Lead concept development and sketch reviews across multiple brandsManage fabric selection processesOversee trend research in silhouettes, trims, and fabricsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to communicate design plansAlign product mix with buying teams and company visionMonitor and communicate key sales and productivity metricsOptimize project timelines and ensure deadlines are metEvolve design strategies in coordination with the executive teamProvide leadership and mentorship to the design team, including setting developmental goalsTrain and develop junior designers through workshopsPresent lines effectively to executives and buyersDevelop quarterly trend decks and design plansTranslate trend research into sellable garmentsTravel as needed for overseeing collections and market researchPerform ad-hoc tasks as directed by executivesCompetencies: Successful candidates should demonstrate:A trend-focused, forward-thinking mindsetRisk-taking balanced with data-driven decision makingExperience collaborating with buying and other departmentsLeadership in managing design teamsExceptional problem-solving and process improvement skillsAbility to balance innovative design risks with customer alignmentExpert knowledge of target specs, POMs, sketching, and CAD toolsStrong leadership, communication, and analytical skillsProactive, self-motivated, and deadline-oriented with delegation skillsFlexible personality adaptable to changing business needsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environment with short lead timesMinimum Qualifications: 7+ years of senior leadership and planning experience leading design teams10+ years of professional women's apparel design experienceDegree in Women's Apparel DesignDeep knowledge of textiles, materials, and fitProficiency in CAD (Illustrator, Photoshop), hand sketching, and flat sketchingExperience developing tech packsStrong illustration skillsProficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, and Google applicationsPreferred Qualifications: Experience leading multiple brandsExperience with luxury or contemporary brandsExperience with LA-based apparel companies*Candidates must submit a portfolio or work samples.
