About the Role
The Director of Cultivation is a senior operational leader responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling high-performing, compliant cultivation programs across multiple states and cultivation modalities. Success in this role is measured by the ability to deliver consistent quality at scale, while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. This position requires a sophisticated leader capable of managing remote, geographically dispersed teams while maintaining a strong "boots-on-the-ground" technical presence.
Initially, the role will focus on providing leadership and oversight for outdoor cultivation operations, with a clear trajectory toward enterprise-wide responsibility spanning indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse facilities across multiple states. The Director will work closely with and build upon the strength of the company's existing cultivation teams - who are highly valued - while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. This leader will be responsible for developing passionate, aligned, and functional cultivation teams across markets, ensuring consistency, accountability, and shared standards.
The primary hub for this role will be in (or around) the following cities: Toledo, Ohio, St. Louis, MO or Salt Lake City, UT.
Outdoor Cultivation Leadership
Harvest Management: Own and execute the outdoor cultivation strategy, including cultivar selection, planting schedules, agronomic planning, irrigation/fertigation, and canopy management and be able to communicate strategy to leadership.
IPM & Disease Control: Develop and manage a comprehensive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and disease prevention program tailored to outdoor environmental pressures.
Execution: Lead harvest planning, labor allocation, and post-harvest coordination to preserve product quality, maximize yield, and minimize loss/shrink.
Standardization: Establish outdoor cultivation SOPs and training programs to ensure accountability across seasonal labor forces.
Reporting: Develop communication and visibility reports for key stakeholders on monthly key metrics and tracking.
Enterprise & Remote Multi-State Oversight
Remote Team Leadership: Provide strategic direction and daily management for remote facility leads across multiple states, utilizing digital communication tools and data dashboards to maintain visibility into facility performance.
Genetic Strategy & Sourcing: Partner with internal stakeholders to guide genetics selection and sourcing, overseeing the enterprise-wide nursery and mother program to maintain high-vigor, terpene-forward, and high-yield cultivars that support quality, scalability, and market competitiveness. Identify, source, and vet world-class genetics from global sources. Manage the enterprise-wide nursery and mother program to ensure high-vigor, high-terpene, and high-yield cultivars are aligned with market trends.
Indoor + Outdoor Synthesis: Standardize systems across disparate modalities (Indoor, Greenhouse, and Outdoor) to ensure a "Standard Wellness" quality regardless of the facility type.
Cross-Functional Optimization: Partner with Commercial and Retail teams on demand planning and strain mix optimization to ensure the genetic pipeline meets consumer preferences.
KPI Accountability: Deploy and monitor a scorecard for yield, potency, cost-per-gram, and labor efficiency across all remote sites
Leadership & Strategic Responsibilities
Visionary Standards: Set the benchmark for cultivation excellence, moving from reactive troubleshooting to proactive, data-driven crop steering.
Risk Mitigation: Identify operational risks in remote facilities (e.g., environmental swings, staffing gaps, compliance lapses) and implement mitigation strategies.
Executive Reporting: Provide high-level insights to leadership regarding the genetic pipeline, projected harvests, and facility-specific performance.
Qualifications
Required 7+ years of cultivation leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a senior-level role overseeing large-scale commercial operations. Multi-Modality Expertise: Proven success in both indoor and outdoor commercial cultivation. Remote Management: Demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and hold teams accountable across multiple states and time zones. Genetic Sourcing: A deep network and proven track record of identifying and acquiring elite cannabis genetics that deliver a competitive advantage in retail. Compliance: Working knowledge of seed-to-sale tracking (METRC, BioTrack, etc.) and strict adherence to multi-state regulatory frameworks.
Preferred Advanced degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or Plant Science. Experience in scaling operations from a single facility to a multi-state footprint. Experience in fast-paced environments or new facility commissioning.
