POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Construction provides executive leadership for all construction operations, overseeing Off-Site Production, Project Management, and Field Operations from project handoff through final completion. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and quality standards while driving operational excellence, financial performance, and continuous improvement. The Director partners with executive leadership to develop strategy, allocate resources, mentor construction leaders, and establish policies and procedures that support company growth
This position exercises significant independent judgment in project execution, staffing, budgeting, scheduling, operational policy, and performance management
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Construction Leadership
Direct all construction operations, including Factory Management, Project Management, and Field Operations
Establish company standards, policies, and procedures that promote safety, quality, efficiency, and profitability
Allocate personnel and resources across multiple projects to maximize operational performance
Provide executive oversight from preconstruction through project closeout
Project Management Leadership
Partner with Senior Project Managers to monitor project schedules, budgets, quality, risk, cash flow, and profitability
Review major change orders, subcontractor issues, forecasts, and recovery plans
Ensure timely project documentation, reporting, and client communication
Field Operations Leadership
Partner with Senior Superintendents to oversee field operations, quality, sequencing, logistics, and production
Conduct site visits and operational audits to ensure compliance with company standards
Resolve field issues affecting schedule, safety, quality, and productivity
Financial Management
Monitor construction budgets, labor productivity, cash flow, and project profitability
Support forecasting, estimating reviews, and project turnover
Identify financial risks and recommend operational improvements that increase efficiency and profitability
Schedule Management
Review and approve master schedules, monitor critical milestones, and direct recovery plans when necessary
Coordinate staffing and sequencing to maximize productivity
Develop and maintain company scheduling standards
Quality Control
Develop and maintain company quality assurance standards
Conduct project quality reviews and oversee project closeout and warranty performance
Ensure all work meets contractual requirements and quality expectations
Safety Leadership
Promote a company-wide culture of safety and regulatory compliance
Support implementation of company safety policies and participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
Partner with field leadership and safety consultants to reduce operational risk
Personnel Management
Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate Project Managers, Superintendents, and construction personnel
Assign personnel based on project needs, workload, and experience
Manage performance, coaching, corrective actions, and succession planning
Support compensation recommendations and leadership development
Client and Business Development Support
Maintain executive relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and key subcontractors
Participate in owner meetings, preconstruction planning, and project pursuits
Support client satisfaction and repeat business initiatives
Continuous Improvement
Standardize construction processes, reporting, and documentation while implementing best practices
Evaluate technology and identify opportunities to improve productivity, communication, quality, and profitability
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises Senior Project Managers, Senior Superintendents, and other assigned construction personnel
Responsibilities include hiring recommendations, work assignments, scheduling, coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, training, and professional development
