Director of Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Director of Construction to lead and oversee construction operations across multiple projects and sites. This senior leadership role is responsible for managing end-to-end construction execution, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a strong construction leader with deep field experience, proven ability to manage large teams and complex builds, and a track record of successfully delivering commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Leadership & Execution

  • Oversee all phases of construction projects from pre-construction through completion

  • Manage multiple active job sites and ensure alignment with project schedules

  • Direct Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams

  • Ensure construction activities meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements

  • Resolve on-site issues and remove barriers to project execution

Project Planning & Delivery

  • Develop and oversee construction execution plans and schedules

  • Coordinate project sequencing, milestones, and resource allocation

  • Ensure alignment between design, procurement, and construction phases

  • Monitor critical path activities and adjust plans to mitigate delays

  • Support pre-construction planning and feasibility assessments

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Manage project budgets and ensure financial discipline across all sites

  • Track expenditures, forecasts, and cost performance metrics

  • Approve and manage change orders in coordination with leadership

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality

  • Collaborate with finance teams on project financial reporting

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Enforce strict safety standards and OSHA compliance across all sites

  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits

  • Ensure compliance with building codes, permits, and regulations

  • Identify and mitigate project risks proactively

  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all field operations

Stakeholder & Client Communication

  • Serve as primary point of contact for project stakeholders and clients

  • Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and milestones

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants

  • Ensure alignment between client expectations and project delivery

  • Support executive reporting and project governance meetings

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and construction staff

  • Build and develop high-performing construction teams

  • Conduct performance evaluations and support career development

  • Support recruitment and onboarding of construction personnel

  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure all construction work meets quality standards and specifications

  • Oversee inspections, testing, and compliance verification

  • Manage punch lists, corrections, and project closeout processes

  • Ensure adherence to architectural and engineering requirements

  • Drive continuous improvement in construction quality practices

Vendor & Subcontractor Management

  • Manage relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors

  • Oversee contract execution and performance management

  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and services

  • Evaluate subcontractor performance and enforce accountability

  • Support contract negotiation and dispute resolution when needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 8+ years of progressive construction experience

  • 3+ years in senior leadership roles (Director-level, Senior Project Manager, or equivalent)

  • Proven experience managing multi-site or large-scale construction projects

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, codes, and safety regulations

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Strong budgeting and cost control experience

  • Must currently reside in one of the approved locations listed above

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Experience in commercial, industrial, healthcare, or infrastructure construction

  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.)

  • PMP, CCM, or similar certification

  • Experience with design-build or EPC project delivery models

  • LEED or sustainability-focused construction experience

  • Strong background in contract negotiation and vendor management

  • Experience working with large general contractors or developer organizations

  • Exposure to portfolio-level construction oversight

  • Vice President of Construction / Construction Executive
