Description

This position serves as the University's designated Title IX Coordinator and ADA/Section 504 Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing the institution's compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, disability accommodations, and accessibility. Responsibilities include coordinating the University's response to reports and complaints, overseeing investigations and resolution processes, developing policies and procedures, conducting training and education initiatives, and collaborating with campus stakeholders to promote a safe, equitable, and accessible environment for students, employees, and visitors.

This position serves as a central resource for compliance matters involving Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disability Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and other related laws and regulations. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Essential Job Duties

  • Serve as the University's designated Title IX Coordinator and ADA/Section 504 Coordinator;
  • Coordinate and oversee compliance with Title IX, ADA, ADAAA, Section 504, and related federal and state laws and regulations;
  • Receive, assess, and respond to reports and complaints involving discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, retaliation, disability discrimination, and requests for accommodations;
  • Coordinate supportive measures, accommodations, and accessibility services for students, employees, and visitors;
  • Oversee and/or conduct investigations and resolution processes involving alleged violations of university policy and applicable laws;
  • Maintain and update institutional policies, procedures, notices, and compliance-related materials and submit for approval through established approval procedures/processes and according to shared governance requirements;
  • Develop and deliver training and educational programs for students, faculty, staff, and administrators regarding compliance obligations and prevention efforts;
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and recommend institutional updates as necessary;
  • Maintain records and prepare reports required by law or institutional practice;
  • Assist with responses to external agency inquiries, investigations, etc.;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required;
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school is preferred;
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Title IX, AD, ADAAA, Section 504, civil rights compliance, higher education compliance, investigations, or related areas is required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX, ADA, ADAAA, Section 504, VAWA, FERPA, and related federal and state laws and regulations is required;
  • Experience conducting or overseeing investigations and complaint resolution processes is required;
  • Experience in higher education compliance or administration is preferred;
  • Experience developing policies, conducting training, and managing institutional compliance programs is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is primarily performed in an office/campus environment, typically indoors. The position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and operate standard office equipment. The individual must be able to communicate effectively and exchange accurate information. Occasional movement throughout campus and the ability to lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds may be required.

Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to view and interpret information on computer screens and in written materials.

The position may require occasional evening or weekend work and travel as needed.

Dental Insurance

UNA also provides dental coverage through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama. The University covers the full individual premium for eligible employees.

Life Insurance

UNA provides all eligible employees with basic life insurance at no cost to the employee. The basic life coverage level is 1.5 times the covered employees annual base salary with a maximum benefit of $400,000. Included with your basic life coverage is Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at 3 times the covered employee's annual salary. The provider for this coverage is Symetra. As a member of the Teachers Retirement System of Alabama (TRS), eligible employees have life benefits available through the TRS. Also, for eligible active employees, a death benefit of the payment of accrued sick leave is paid to the employees beneficiary by the University.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

This coverage provides benefits after a 90-day period of disability. The monthly benefit is 60% of the covered employee's monthly base salary not to exceed $10,000 per month. The cost for this benefit is paid in full by the University for eligible employees and the provider for this coverage is Symetra.

Retirement Plans

The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama (TRS) is a defined benefit plan in which participation is mandatory for eligible employees. Eligible employees are categorized by the TRS as Tier I or Tier II members.

Rates below are effective as of October 1, 2025

  • Tier I - Employee contribution rate is 7.5% for regular employees and 8.5% for law enforcement employees.
  • Tier II - Employee contribution rate is 6.2% for regular employees and 7.0% for law enforcement employees.

Voluntary TIAA-Cref 403(b) Plan - this retirement plan is a voluntary, supplemental, deferred compensation plan.

Voluntary RSA-1 457 Plan - this plan is a voluntary, supplemental, deferred compensation plan offered by the Retirement Systems of Alabama.

Supplemental (Voluntary) Benefits

The University provide a $6.00 per month credit to eligible employees to offset the cost(s) for supplemental, voluntary benefits. All full-time regular employees are eligible for this benefit on the first day of the month following the completion of 90 days of employment.

Remission of Tuition and Fees

UNA provides remission of tuition to eligible employees and to their spouses and qualified dependent children.

Paid Time Off

Annual Leave - Annual leave is accrued for each hour worked. During the first 2 years of employment, the accrual is 10 workdays. After completion of 2 years of continuous service, eligible employees are entitled to 12 days of annual leave and, for each additional year of service, annual leave is increased by one day per year to a maximum of 20 days after 10 years.

Sick Leave - Full-time regular staff members are entitled to 96 work hours (12 workdays) of sick leave each year at the employees regular rate of pay regardless of length of service.

Paid Holidays - Full-time, regular staff employees are eligible for paid holidays.
