Summary: The Information Officer (IO)is responsible for the development, organization, and direction of all public relation events for Proviso Township High Schools. This position will require an innovative, forward-thinking, experienced communications professional who is an outgoing and dynamic leader. The IO is responsible for all forms of communication with parents and the broader community. Creating a vision and brand for Proviso Township High Schools and a positive student-centered image in multimedia is essential. This position will establish positive relationships with the media, newspapers, governmental agencies and business partners to foster and develop relationships on behalf of the District.

The Information Officer (IO)will also write and distribute high-quality editorial material targeted to specific audiences and the public. The IO will draft and send press releases that contain important updates about the District to print and broadcast media outlets.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate external communications, media relations, and the writing and editing of district-wide publications, including periodic newsletters, social media and website pages, press releases, features, and district calendars.
  • Oversees the design, development, and publication of print materials and keeps such print materials updated at all times.
  • Oversees the coordination of the Superintendent's community-sponsored events.
  • Act as FOIA Officer
  • Attends Board of Education meetings and other District and community committees and events at the request of the Superintendent
  • Oversees and collects data from all stakeholders to measure satisfaction, areas of perceived performance improvement, factors why existing families are leaving the District, reasons why new families come into the District, and information related to business partnerships
  • Ensures the District maintains a strong presence on social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
  • Supervises translation of publications from English to Spanish, following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and mechanics. (Publications include handbooks, calendars, school catalogs, school correspondence, IEPs, and other publications as assigned.)
  • Supervises translation of news releases and other media outreach materials and marketing materials as assigned.
  • Supports the Director of Technology in managing the District's website, dashboard, and all digital media infrastructure.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Qualifications/Requirements: To be considered for this position, the candidate must possess the following required education, certification, skills, experience and/or qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related area. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in public relations, communications or journalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and current software.

The successful candidate for this position should also possess the following desired skills, experience and/or qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • A high degree of honesty and integrity demonstrated through both work and personal references
  • Keen ability to quickly comprehend and synthesize complex information into tight, readable prose
  • Able to multi-task and independently prioritize routine tasks and special projects; work well under tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to work as a part of a creative team, with a flexible approach to all tasks.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: Regionally competitive, based on experience and qualifications: $133,457 $180,559

Selection Process:

All applicants must complete a District application to be considered for employment. Applications will be reviewed. Interviews of selected qualified applicants will be conducted, and a qualified candidate will be recommended by the hiring supervisor to the Office of Human Resources.
