Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching students, residents, and fellows while engaged in clinical activities, research, and/or serving as lecturer for divisional and/or school educational programs. Clinical responsibilities may include working in the outpatient clinics and as an attending on the inpatient service as applicable depending upon candidate background.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include demonstrating a track record of high impact publications, funding independence, research training experience, administrative expertise, and the abilities needed to build new programs, while integrating productive Cardiac Center research into a novel structure. Work closely with the CHOP Research Institute to build cross-disciplinary partnerships between the CVI and other clinical and translational research centers and teams.

In addition, the Director will:

• Recruit and retain top cardiovascular clinical research faculty specifically including candidates from groups historically under-represented in pediatric research.

• Catalyze the collaborative coalescence of clinical researchers across CHOP pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery and critical care/anesthesia.

• Further enhance the interface with, and participation in, national research efforts including those sponsored by the NHLBI (PHN, PCGC).

• In partnership with the CVI leadership promote collaborative bridges between the basic, translational, and clinical scientists across the CV research landscape at CHOP and Penn towards the development of a world-class comprehensive pediatric cardiology research center

• Help lead the development and utilization of a “through the door” Cardiac Center/CVI biorepository linked to the Penn Medicine Biobank leading to a “lifespan” biobank, the first of its kind.

• Develop a plan to harmonize existing CHOP disease-specific legacy biorepositories (e.g. Norwood cohort, ApoE cohort etc) with the Cardiac Center/CVI biorepository and the larger CHOP Research Institute biobanking effort.

• Establish impactful academic-industry partnerships and efficient pathways towards commercialization of the discoveries of the CVI and Cardiac Center researchers.
