Position Summary:

The Director of Business Services provides strategic leadership in the administration of the District''s financial management and sustainable operations. This position ensures fiscal responsibility, legal compliance, and operational excellence while supporting the district''s educational mission, vision and student achievement goals.

Qualifications:

Required:

Valid Wisconsin 5008 administrative license as School Business Manager

Master''s degree in educational administration, business administration, finance, or related field

Demonstrated leadership ability and expertise in school business and personnel practices

Ability to develop positive relations with students, staff, and public

Knowledge of Wisconsin school finance laws and regulations

Preferred:

Three years of administrative experience in educational finance or business operations

Experience with governmental accounting and budgeting processes

Bilingual - Spanish/English Preferred

Essential Functions:

Supervision and Oversight

The Director directly supervises and provides oversight of the following departments:

Fiscal Services - Including payroll, accounting, budgeting, purchasing, and financial reporting functions

Financial Management

Assist with establishing clear budget priorities and build accurate, reliable district budgets in collaboration with stakeholders

Forecast revenue impact from local, state, federal, and other funding sources

Allocate resources in alignment with long-term budget planning and district strategic goals

Implement legally compliant systems of internal controls for cash management and disbursements

Ensure legal compliance and accountability for all financial and physical assets

Execute comprehensive financial risk management strategies and regular risk assessments

Develop and manage investment strategies to protect assets and maximize income

Report district financial status to state agencies and engage in external audit processes

Operations Management

Support long-range planning for capital projects to achieve financial, operational, and learning benchmarks

Support asset management plans for maintenance, equipment replacement, and technology upgrades

Develop and maintain legally compliant records management and data protection systems

Strategic Leadership & Communication

Contribute to strategic planning that aligns resources with teaching and learning goals

Analyze data and recommend actions for executing, monitoring, and evaluating strategic plans

Communicate the district''s budget, tax levy, and financial outlook in stakeholder appropriate formats

Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure open, frequent, and transparent communication

Follow ethical guidelines and promote integrity across all district operations

Professional Development & Compliance

Stay innovative and informed of leading-edge practices to drive continuous improvement

Understand and apply state and federal laws and regulations to ensure legal compliance

Participate in Board negotiating teams, staff meetings, and committee groups as assigned

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Operations

Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an office environment with occasional visits to district schools and facilities. Regular interaction with district personnel, board members, community stakeholders, and external partners is required.

Physical / Mental Requirements:

This is primarily a sedentary position involving regular computer usage, document review, and office-based activities. Occasional travel to district schools, meetings outside the building, and facility inspections may be required. The position requires effective verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
