Director of Business Development and Marketing Job Details:

Snell & Wilmer, one of the largest law firms in the Western United States, is seeking a full-time Director of Business Development and Marketingto work from the firm’s Phoenix, Arizonaoffice. The position will report to the Chief Marketing Officer of the firm. The Director oversees firmwide business development and marketing operations. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, collaborative leader, and results-oriented professional with experience in a large professional services or law firm environment.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement integrated business development and marketing strategies aligned with the firm’s strategic plan and growth priorities.
  • Partner with firm leadership, practice group leaders, and attorneys to identify market opportunities, client expansion initiatives, and competitive positioning strategies.
  • Lead annual business development planning processes for practice groups, industries, and offices.
  • Provide strategic guidance on client service and cross-marketing initiatives.

Business Development

  • Oversee preparation of pitches, RFPs, proposals, presentations, and other client-facing materials via the firm’s generative AI database.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to develop tailored business development strategies for existing and prospective clients.
  • Drive initiatives that support client retention, relationship expansion, and revenue generation.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments to identify strategic opportunities.

Marketing & Brand Management

  • Assist with firmwide marketing and branding initiatives, including execution of campaigns and events, to enhance visibility and reputation in key markets.
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of marketing materials, including attorney biographies, practice and industry descriptions, and client communications.
  • Strengthen digital content, including thought leadership and social media posts, ensuring alignment with firm brand standards.

Rankings, Research & Analytics

  • Support strategic growth with local, regional, and national business and legal nominations.
  • Utilize market research and data analytics to evaluate marketing effectiveness and business development ROI.
  • Prepare executive reports and dashboards on pipeline activity, campaign performance, and client engagement metrics.

 Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the business development and marketing team across multiple offices, practice groups, and functions.
  • Help manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and external community partnerships.
  • Foster a collaborative, client-focused, and high-performance culture within the department.
  • Establish best practices, workflows, and operational efficiencies to support firm growth.

Experience & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred
  • 10 or more years of progressive business development/marketing experience in a law firm or professional services environment, including demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, driving strategic growth initiatives, and partnering with firm leadership to execute business development, marketing, and client engagement strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication proficiency, including strong attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with clients
  • Financial and commercial acumen
  • Experience with CRM (including Interaction), email marketing systems, experience software, and website tools (WordPress and Google Analytics) are a plus to enable data driven decision making
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and business services professionals
  • Willingness to work extended hours or travel occasionally between firm offices and client events, as needed
