The Director of Adult Education and Literacy supervises and coordinates the role of the Administrative Assistant of Adult Education and Literacy, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator, Literacy Coordinator, and Adult Education and Literacy (ABED/ESL) Instructors and is responsible for providing support and leadership for the Adult Education & Family Literacy Act grant, Innovative Technology Bridge Grant, Secretary of the State Literacy Grant and any newly acquired programmatic grant initiatives. The Director also leads the effort for procurement of additional grant opportunities in the adult education area, including the Integrated English Literacy & Civics Education grant. The Director provides registration, assessment, advising, recruitment, and retention services for adult education students. The Director maintains students' files, programmatic and student data, and is responsible for generating and submitting reports required by the Illinois Community College Board. This position works with the Dean of Adult Education, Literacy, and Middle College to provide leadership to the department.

Assesses community needs; seeks and develops opportunities for funding and support of Adult Education and Literacy Initiatives, expansion of program offerings, and increases in enrollment.
Research and gather data to develop, write, and submit grant proposals to ICCB that support the mission and vision of the adult education and literacy department for adult education students.
Develops, manages, and oversees the implementation of program services within the Adult Education & Family Literacy Act Grant, IBT Grant, SOS Literacy Grant, and any future grant opportunities.
Provides leadership to and supervises the Administrative Assistant of Adult Education and Literacy, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator, Literacy Coordinator, and Adult Education and Literacy (ABED/ESL) Instructors.
Schedules classes each semester for on-campus and off-campus sites.
Works cooperatively with the Dean of Adult Education and Literacy, Middle College, and College Express, other college leadership, and various departments to communicate Adult Education issues and ensure that ABED/ESL students have maximum opportunities for a successful transition into college or workforce.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate appropriate teaching staff and support staff for ABE, GED/HSE, and ESL.
Coordinates or performs the initial registration and placement testing for all adult education students including ABE, GED, and ESL.
Coordinates progress testing with adult education faculty.
Oversees the maintenance of student files including biographical data, educational levels, funding source, placement and progress documentation, and other information in compliance with specific programmatic requirements.
Manages class enrollment lists through monitoring of daily student attendance records.
Counsels with students, particularly those from vulnerable populations and/or special needs to address and promote retention, make referrals, and arrange accommodation as needed to ameliorate barriers.
Works to develop Bridge and ICAPS programs to facilitate the transition of ABED/ESL students to college-level courses and certificate programs.
Develop strategies and processes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of adult education and literacy service delivery practice to enhance the learning and transition activities.
Coordinates the marketing of the Adult Education and Literacy Program.
Coordinates with the College's Registration/Records and Business Office in providing registration information, mid-term class enrollment verification lists, and grade rosters.
Registers Adult Education Students and verifies financial aid authorizations through the student information system.
Maintains and manages student information including student biographical data, enrollment hours, placement and progress scores, class lists, and daily attendance records. Schedule the program courses, instructor, meeting times, locations, and other information in compliance with specific programmatic requirements.
Generates reports required by the Illinois Community College Board including Enrollment Reports, Performance Reports, Master Lists, and the Student Profile.
Prepares and submits all Quarterly Reports and grant-mandated reports associated with ICCB.
Facilitates and host the Area Planning Council meetings and develops and submits the Area Plan annually. Monitors student progress through data review and post-testing. Meet with instructors to discuss progress and level changes.
Cultivates and nurtures partnerships with internal (counseling and advising, financial aid, veteran affairs, etc.) and external (local government agencies, WIOA, American Job Center) entities to make referrals and provide support services including educational, vocational, or personal counseling for students.
Participates in adult education and college-sponsored staff development activities. Spearhead the coordination of the adult education graduation ceremony.
Manages Adult Education, Literacy & Middle College Division in the absence of the Dean.
Processes payroll for Adult Education faculty.
Develops, coordinates, and reports professional development for adult education staff and faculty as required by Illinois Community College Board.
Supervises work-study/Student Worker Employees.
Coordinates program orientation activities and assists in the student ID process.
Participates in the strategic planning process for the Adult Education, Literacy & Middle College Division.
Investigate student behavior reports and interpret College policy in relation to student behavior.
Advocates for students and troubleshoot problems that arise when appropriate.
Understand basic threat assessment protocols and interface with counseling resources, campus security, and other campus resources.
Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
