A TYPICAL DAY WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING . . .:
- Reports to the CEO
- Provides hands-on leadership of the company's daily accounting operations
- Owns the integrity of the company's financial records and reporting systems, ensuring accurate and timely financial information is provided to the CEO and Board of Directors
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the accounting & payroll department
- Establishes and maintains an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
- Provides leadership, training, and ongoing development of the accounting & payroll team
- Maintains effective working relationships with market support and market leadership
- Ensures the dissemination and adherence to all company accounting policies
- Leads monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries
- Directs the preparation, review, and presentation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Ensures the accuracy of financial systems and reports delivered to the CEO and Board of Directors
- Prepares and delivers quarterly board reporting packages with supporting analysis
- Manages the annual external audit and serves as primary liaison with external auditors
- Conducts high-level reviews of weekly payroll entries and postings
- Develops and maintains internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting
- Identifies risk exposure and effectively manages financial and business risk, ensuring effective systems of controls are in place
- Oversees and reviews preparation of federal income, state and local excise tax returns
- Monitors debt levels and compliance with debt covenants and sends required financial information to the bank along with the covenant computations
- Administers company property leases, ensuring compliance with lease terms and reporting obligations
- Implements and oversees the company credit card program, ensuring appropriate controls and efficiency
- Monitors and manages cash flow, working capital, and expenses
- Serves as Trustee for the company's 401(k) plan
- Oversees the company 401(k) plan, including plan documents, annual Form 5500 filings, employee communications, participant distributions, and the annual audit of company plans in compliance with ERISA and in partnership with the third-party administrator
- Researches, evaluates, and proposes insurance coverage and benefit plan options to the CEO and Board of Directors to meet the company's needs
- Provides financial information for annual company valuations
- Partners with the executive team on annual budget development and periodic forecasts
- Provides financial analysis to support routine business decision-making
- Provides friendly, helpful, quick and courteous guest service
- Maintains adherence to sustainability programs and all security and safety procedures
- Stays abreast of industry trends, standards and changes

THIS JOB MIGHT BE FOR YOU IF . . .:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with experience in public accounting required
- Minimum of eight years of accounting experience, including at least three years in a leadership role
- Proven experience as a Controller, ideally in a business with operational complexity
- Experience leading and developing a multi-person accounting and payroll team
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and demonstrated experience managing the external audit relationship with a track record of clean audits
- Demonstrated experience leading month-end closing, financial reporting, internal controls, and cash flow management
- Experience overseeing payroll operations, including review of payroll entries and postings
- Experience administering employer-sponsored 401(k) or other defined contribution plans, including ERISA compliance, Form 5500 filings, and serving in a fiduciary capacity
- Experience with federal income tax compliance and multi-state and local tax matters, including sales and excise tax
- Experience monitoring debt covenants and providing required reporting to lenders
- Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842 and lease administration
- Experience in evaluating and recommending employee benefit and insurance plans
- Working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting sufficient to partner on FP&A activities
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the Board of Directors
- Experience in retail industry preferred
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office; experience with Dynamics Great Plains is preferred
- Demonstrated discretion while practicing a high level of confidentiality
- Must be detail-oriented
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively
- Ability to build and maintain relationships and trust with a diverse group of employees, guests and vendors
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Possess full body mobility (bending, stooping, twisting and reaching)

Entry Level Compensation:
USD $131,200.00/Yr.
Maximum Compensation:
USD $183,300.00/Yr.
