The College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Academic Advising to manage and oversee advising operations and retention efforts within the College of Agriculture and to work with academic advisors and departmental undergraduate program coordinators.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct and oversee academic advising efforts in the college including training, professional development, and supervision of college advisors.
  • Oversees day-to-day advising activities in the dean’s office and serves as the College point of contact for advising-related issues.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of advising and compliance with university advising policies and procedures. Oversee academic advising campaigns. Oversee day-to-day advising operations in the dean's office and serve as the point of contact for all advising related issues.
  • Communicates information to academic advisors, student services coordinators, and department undergraduate program coordinators in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Directs freshman and transfer student orientation sessions, workshops, and programs.
  • Directs the annual review of all Agriculture curricula to ensure that all models used for advising are current and information is accurately reflected in DegreeWorks and other university software used in academic advising processes.
  • Serves on university level committees as the College of Agriculture liaison in matters related to academic advising.
  • Coordinates and leads retention and academic support efforts for the college including directing retention campaigns, tracking student data, and implanting programs to improve retention and academic performance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Psychology, Counseling, or related field and 5 years of experience in academic advising or counseling.

Desired qualifications include: a Master's degree from an accredited institution which may include a broad range of academic majors within Agriculture, Education, Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Business; experience in academic advising; demonstrated ability to work with students; knowledge of higher education issues; some experience in working with faculty and staff in higher education; and a strong record of working with a team of colleagues.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles and practices.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, supervise, direct, evaluate, work in a team, solve problems, evaluate options, and make timely decisions with regard for the student's best interest is also required.
