Class Title: Children's Justice Center (CJC) Director Department: Sanpete County Attorney
The director's primary task is to directly oversee and manage the operations of the CJC including its staff and volunteers serving at the Center. The director works under the supervision of the Sanpete County Attorney.
Several local law enforcement agencies, Sanpete County, and the State of Utah collaborated to develop a CJC to improve response to child abuse victims. Provides program support to local government entities; law enforcement agencies; Division of Child and Family Services; victim families and community entities.
This is a part time position requiring 25-29 hours per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Directs overall operations of the CJC by planning short and long-term goals.
2. Develops and implements policies, protocols, and services.
3. Develops and monitors program budget in cooperation with Sanpete County. Director will provide budget projections, allocations, and expenditures as required.
4. Ensures that the CJC property is well maintained to provide a comfortable place for child victims and families.
5. Writes grants, submits required quarterly and annual reports, and negotiates contracts as required.
6. Maintains statistical information for quarterly and annual reports to the State and grantor agencies.
7. Controls and maintains all documents necessary to fulfill legal and regulatory requirements.
8. Assists in the coordination of crises intervention in the CJC and coordinates referrals to other community resources to ensure continuity of services. As requested, reviews cases including clinical reviews and/or supplemental case staffing with law enforcement, the Division of Child and Family Services and other essential agencies to facilitate the implementation of delivery of services to victims and families.
9. Represents the local CJC at the Utah State Children's Justice Program Advisory Board and the State Directors meetings held in other locations as well as working closely and attending meetings of the local advisory board.
10. Regularly coordinates meetings of the local multidisciplinary team where cases are monitored and reviewed. Makes suggestions and gives guidance to the team to facilitate collaboration in the best interest of the victims.
11. Attend meetings of the Friends of the CJC board to represent the interests and needs of the CJC program and to provide guidance on how the board can assist.
12. Advises the County Attorney and the advisory board on CJC needs and priorities.
13. Provides an ongoing forum for interagency problem solving and planning in the area of child abuse prevention.
14. Directs and supervises personnel and volunteers. The director will provide hiring recommendations, determine workload, and outline responsibilities of employees and volunteers. The director, after consulting with the Sanpete County Attorney, will be included in initiating corrective or disciplinary actions, which may include termination, if necessary and as outlined by the Sanpete County Employee policies.
15. Attends appropriate meetings, conferences, workshops and state and national training sessions.
16. Coordinates community development and awareness.
17. Undertakes reasonable tasks to further enhance community involvement and overall effectiveness of the center.
18. Other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIREMENTS
Preferred education background in business administration, public administration, human and social services, child development, criminal justice or related field, plus two years applicable experience. Leadership and managerial experience required.
1. Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language and possess strong writing
, grammar and punctuation skills, as well as previous grant writing experience.
2. Must have strong interpersonal skills.

3. Must be able to organize and supervise the day-to-day CJC activities.
4. Must have the ability to speak and make presentations before a group of people; communicate information and ideas clearly, concisely, and grammatically correct in writing.
5. Must have the ability to write and administer grants.
6. Prefer experience interfacing with other agencies, professions, groups, and organizations akin to the CJC's mission.
7. Must have ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
8. Must be experienced using word processing programs, spreadsheets and have a solid foundation with computer skills.
9. Prefer experience in effective delegation, supervision, and appraising of associate personnel and volunteers.
10. In addition to a regular scheduled workweek, must be flexible and willing to respond to after hour's law enforcement requests to use the CJC.
11. Must consent to and pass a criminal background and child abuse registry background check.
12. Must be able to effectively interact with children of varying backgrounds. Prefer a director experienced in working with and understanding the needs of abused and neglected children.
13. Must seek to protect the integrity of the CJC, also act to garner community support, resources, and services.
14. Must have knowledge of crisis intervention factors, social service systems, legal/court systems, and child welfare principles.
15. Must have good arithmetic computation skills and experience in basic general accounting and budgets.
