Position Summary

The Director, IT Project Management provides enterprise leadership for the planning, governance, and execution of IT and digital initiatives across the organization. This role is accountable for establishing consistent project intake, prioritization, delivery discipline, and performance management to ensure strategic initiatives are delivered predictably, efficiently, and with clear business value.

The Director leads the IT Project Management Office (PMO), partners with executive and operational leaders, and serves as the primary owner of enterprise IT delivery governance-ensuring strategy translates into execution while managing capacity, risk, and interdependencies.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Project Governance & Strategy Execution

  • Establish and lead a standardized enterprise IT project governance framework, including intake, prioritization, funding alignment, and execution oversight.
  • Ensure alignment of IT and digital projects with organizational strategy, clinical priorities, financial goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the accountable leader for portfolio‑level decision‑making, balancing demand, capacity, risk, and value across initiatives.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, configuration and deployment of a Project Portfolio Management (PPM) solution.

PMO Leadership & Delivery Excellence

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of project and program managers.

  • Define and enforce project management standards, methodologies, and tools across the enterprise.

  • Drive consistent execution across large, complex initiatives including:

  • Epic and clinical systems

  • Revenue cycle and ERP platforms

  • Digital health and AI initiatives

  • Infrastructure and cybersecurity programs

  • Improve delivery predictability, milestone discipline, and transparency.

Portfolio, Capacity & Risk Management

  • Own enterprise project portfolio visibility, including:

  • Active and proposed initiatives

  • Resource capacity and constraints

  • Delivery risk and dependencies

  • Provide actionable insights to executive leadership on tradeoffs, sequencing, and escalation management.

  • Reduce executive time spent on project triage by resolving issues at the appropriate governance level.

Stakeholder Partnership & Communication

  • Partner with clinical, operational, financial, and technology leaders to define scope, outcomes, and success measures.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives on delivery feasibility, timing, and risk.
  • Ensure clear, concise, and consistent project reporting for senior leadership and governance bodies.

Operational Maturity & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement portfolio and project management tooling to support data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Establish KPIs for delivery performance, value realization, and resource utilization.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement across the PMO and delivery teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project, program, or portfolio management within healthcare or large‑scale regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading an enterprise PMO or large delivery organization.
  • PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare IT landscapes (e.g., Epic, revenue cycle, clinical systems, ERP).
  • Expertise in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Proficient in project portfolio management software.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross‑functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing governance frameworks, intake models, and portfolio management practices.
  • Excellent executive communication, influence, and leadership skills.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting digital transformation, AI, or advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Direct experience partnering with clinical and operational leaders in a healthcare system.
  • Master's degree in business, healthcare, information systems, or related field.
