Company Description

Deerpath Capital is a leading direct lending firm specializing in first lien, senior debt financing for middle market companies. The firm provides debt capital for acquisitions, refinancings, ownership transitions and growth capital to companies in the U.S. lower middle market. Deerpath maintains investment locations in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, along with overseas investor relations offices in London, Seoul, Tokyo, Dubai and Brisbane, and employs approximately 100 people globally.

Position Overview

This role is responsible for distribution primarily across Texas and the surrounding southern U.S. region. We are seeking an experienced professional with established relationships, a proven track record of client management and capital raising in the private markets, and the ability to clearly communicate the intricacies of the firm’s product offering. The successful candidate will report to the Head of North America Investor Partnerships and will hold the following core responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities

Investor Prospecting

  • Develop and build new prospective investor targets across the Texas/South region, including pensions, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, RIAs, family offices, funds of funds, asset managers and consultants
  • Leverage existing relationships that are a suitable fit for the firm and strategy
  • Generate and help manage a pipeline of prospective investors
  • Arrange calls and meetings with prospective investors
  • Track and help manage prospective investor follow-up
  • Develop priority list of investor conferences within the coverage area and arrange meetings at conference and roadshow around conference, where appropriate

Marketing and Communication

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the firm - its history, professionals, culture, investment strategy and process, products, track record, portfolios and existing client base - and communicate it effectively to prospective investors
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the marketplace and competitive landscape and convey it clearly to prospective investors
  • Advocate for the firm by articulating its market position, competitive advantages and value proposition
  • Lead initial presentations to prospective investors, independently and alongside senior team members

Relationship Management

  • Manage the ongoing list of investor inquiries, due diligence requests, RFPs and other follow-up, working with the investor relations team to ensure timely responses
  • Track all prospective investor progress in the firm’s CRM system
  • Coordinate with and help manage placement agent activity globally

Performance and Personal Competencies

Established and strong institutional investor relationships

  • Solid reputation within the LP and consultant communities
  • Strong track record of advising institutional investors and/or raising capital from high-quality investors
  • Experience developing and managing institutional relationships
  • Solid understanding of the private equity/credit fundraising process and investor service expectations

Market and Product Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of the credit markets
  • Experience with private credit - oriented strategies; the individual will be expected to become quickly conversant in the firm’s investment strategy and product offering

Communication and Relationship Building Skills

  • Ability to articulate and sell the investment strategy and engage in solutions-oriented discussions with prospective investors
  • A natural ability to connect and build strong relationships, with strong emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
  • Proven interpersonal communication skills with well-developed presentation skills

Entrepreneurial Mindset

  • Creative approach to developing new ideas that drive the investor pipeline
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and without a high degree of hand-holding

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree from a well-respected institution
  • Minimum of 10+ years of financial services or consulting experience in an outward-facing role
  • Minimum of 5+ years successfully initiating and developing institutional investor relationships, preferably raising capital for private funds in private credit and/or private equity
