Job Summary

The Director, Health & Safety Integration is responsible for leading the integration of health and safety standards across newly acquired operations while ensuring a consistent, thorough, and compliant approach to internal incident investigations.

This role partners cross-functionally with Operations and Facilities to identify risks and implement preventative strategies that protect the safety and well-being of children, staff, and families.

The Director plays a critical leadership role in driving continuous improvement, strengthening safety culture, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Integration

  • Lead the integration of health and safety programs, policies, and standards across newly acquired or transitioning centres.
  • Conduct risk-based safety assessments and audits during integration phases, identifying gaps and prioritizing corrective actions.
  • Partner with Facilities and Operations to ensure timely closure of identified risks and deficiencies.
  • Standardize processes, tools, and reporting mechanisms to ensure consistency across regions.
  • Support change management efforts to embed safe practices into daily operations and centre culture.

 

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Collaborate in the development, review, and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Ensure all practices align with applicable regulatory, licensing, and organizational requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on child safety and risk mitigation.
  • Create and roll-out audits as required.

Incident Investigation – supporting role

  • Complete internal incident investigations, ensuring a fair, consistent, and objective approach.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted in accordance with established protocols, including:
    • Evidence collection (e.g., documentation, video, staff and training records)
    • Interviews with involved parties
    • Timely documentation of findings and outcomes including conclusions, root cause analysis, and recommended next steps.
  • Collaborate with HR and Operations to assess findings and determine appropriate corrective or disciplinary actions.  

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Business, Risk Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree considered an asset
  • Professional certifications in safeguarding, child protection, compliance, investigations, workplace safety, or risk management considered an asset
  • Current knowledge of provincial/state licensing regulations, child protection legislation, and health & safety standards required

Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience within early childhood education, childcare, education, safeguarding, compliance, safety, licensing, or regulated environments
  • Minimum 3–5 years in a senior leadership or multi-site management role
  • Experience overseeing compliance across multiple locations and jurisdictions preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing sensitive investigations, incident response, corrective action plans, and regulatory matters
  • Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and organization-wide training programs
  • Experience working with licensing agencies, regulatory authorities, law enforcement, and external partners when required
  • Experience leading crisis management, risk mitigation, and safeguarding initiatives within a child-focused environment preferred

    • Incident investigation and reporting processes
    • Employee conduct and accountability standards
    • Workplace investigations and documentation practices
    • Emergency preparedness and crisis response planning
    • Privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Ability to analyze trends, identify organizational risks, and implement preventative strategies
  • Strong policy development, auditing, and compliance monitoring capabilities
  • Proficiency with reporting systems, compliance tracking tools, and learning management systems
