Position Summary

Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2026

Under general supervision, the Director of Fire/Rescue Training coordinates the operational delivery of Fire, Rescue, and related public safety training programs and assists with the implementation of EMS-related training activities under the direction of the Division Chair.

The Director serves as a primary liaison with local departments and partner agencies to identify short-term training needs, coordinate course offerings, support the fire academy and related programs, arrange instructors and resources, and ensure required documentation is complete and accurate. The Director also assists with EMS course scheduling, communication, and logistics, while responsibility for EMS program compliance, accreditation, and overall program administration remains with the Director of EMS Programs.

This position reports directly to the Division Chair and provides supervision to part-time Fire/Rescue Training instructors and other division personnel as assigned or delegated by the supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Fire, Rescue, and related public safety training courses and programs offered through the College, including short-term, agency-specific, and academy-based training.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact and liaison with local fire, rescue, EMS, emergency management, and other public safety agencies to identify training needs and support responsive course development.
  • Assist the Division Chair in planning, organizing, promoting, scheduling, and delivering Fire, Rescue, and EMS-related continuing education and workforce training opportunities.
  • Provide primary day-to-day coordination for the fire academy and other short-term Fire/Rescue offerings.
  • Assist with EMS course scheduling and coordination, particularly for agency-based or short-term offerings, under the direction of the Division Chair.
  • Coordinate and monitor use of fire/rescue training grounds and facilities to help ensure safe operations, proper use of equipment, and timely identification of maintenance or repair needs.
  • Coordinate instructional logistics, including instructor communication, class scheduling, facilities, equipment, supplies, rosters, and related support needs.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of qualified part-time and contracted instructors in accordance with College procedures and applicable credentialing requirements.
  • Ensure required course documentation is collected, reviewed, submitted, and maintained in accordance with College procedures and agency-specific requirements.
  • Maintain student records, ensuring timely completion and submission of student registrations, attendance, rosters, testing documentation, certification-related records, and other required reports related to assigned Fire/Rescue and support-related EMS offerings.
  • Assist with class audits, accountability reviews, and documentation checks in accordance with Continuing Education/Workforce Development accountability and integrity requirements.
  • Coordinate fire/rescue certification testing, retesting, and related documentation processes in accordance with applicable agency requirements.
  • Maintain accountability for Fire and Rescue training equipment, supplies, and instructional resources used; identify needs for repair, replacement, or upgrade.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting by identifying operational needs and submitting requests related to assigned programs.
  • Maintain standards for compliance with NC OSFM, the NC Community College System, and Martin Community College.
  • Provide administrative and operational support for fire academy, and other assigned public safety training initiatives, including scheduling, records, supplies, and event coordination.
  • Coordinate with local and regional partners to support emergency management training, exercises, drills, or related collaborative offerings as assigned.
  • Attend local association meetings, agency meetings, conferences, and other professional events to maintain partnerships and remain current on fire/rescue training requirements and needs.
  • Assist in public information sharing and promotion of EMS/Fire/Rescue training programs.
  • Provide instruction within area(s) of credentialing and expertise as needed to support program delivery.
  • Works a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed to meet program and agency needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Qualifications

Required:

  • Current NC Firefighter certification.
  • Current NC Firefighter Qualified Instructor certification.
  • Knowledge of NC Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) requirements, standards, and procedures.
  • Previous teaching, coordination, or training experience in emergency services or public safety.
  • Experience working with local departments, agencies, or emergency service partners.

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in emergency services, fire protection, EMS, public safety, education, or a related field.
  • NC Emergency Management Instructor certification.
  • NC EMT credential.
  • Community college or continuing education experience.
  • Experience coordinating short-term workforce or agency-based training.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver's license and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain credentials and certifications required for assigned instructional or coordination responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and travel throughout the College service area.
