Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Energy Storage Services will lead the strategy, execution, and operational performance of all field service activities associated with energy storage systems across Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Community Scale, and Utility Scale deployments. This role is responsible for building and managing a high-performing service organization covering commissioning, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, warranty administration, remote monitoring, technical support, and long-term asset performance.
The Director will ensure successful project handoff from deployment to operations while driving customer satisfaction, system reliability, fleet uptime, and service profitability. This position requires close collaboration with Product Management, Supply Chain, Sales, Software, and external OEM/Field Service partners to establish scalable service processes and long-term operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the service strategy for energy storage systems across commissioning and operational phases.
- Build and scale the service organization, including field service, commissioning, technical support, and operations teams.
- Establish organizational structure, talent development, and KPIs related to safety, uptime, customer satisfaction, warranty cost, and service profitability.
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Commissioning & Field Operations
- Lead commissioning activities for AC/DC-coupled energy storage systems and establish standardized procedures, testing protocols, and acceptance criteria.
- Oversee system validation across battery, inverter/PCS, EMS/SCADA, controls, communications, and grid integration functions.
- Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to maximize reliability, minimize downtime, and ensure rapid resolution of field issues.
- Drive fleet performance improvements through data-driven analysis and lessons learned.
Warranty, Monitoring & Technical Support
- Establish warranty administration, claims processes, and ownership frameworks with OEM partners.
- Lead root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and risk mitigation activities.
- Manage remote monitoring, diagnostics, predictive maintenance capabilities, and fleet performance reporting tools.
Cross-Functional & Commercial Leadership
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, Finance, and Legal teams to support product development, service offerings, spare parts planning, and long-term support agreements.
- Serve as executive point of contact for key customers and lead development of service contracts including LTSAs, maintenance agreements, and performance guarantees.
- Drive customer satisfaction, retention, and growth of service-related revenue opportunities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related technical field required.
- Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of experience in energy storage, power systems, renewable energy, utilities, or related industries.
- Minimum 10 years in progressively responsible service leadership roles.
- Direct experience with commissioning and maintenance of utility-scale or commercial & industrial energy storage systems.
- Experience leading geographically distributed field service organizations.
- Experience with battery technologies, inverters, EMS platforms, and grid integration systems.
- Strong understanding of warranty administration and service business models.
