The College of Dentistry is looking for a Director, Department Operations & Ambulatory Surgery to serve in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. What you need to know

Proposed Salary: Commensurate based on selected candidates qualifications.

Work Schedule/Location: Located in Dallas, TX, this an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday Friday 8am to 5pm.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 10 years of progressively responsible healthcare management experience to include a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience within a surgical department, ASC, or complex academic medical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in clinical operations management and multi-source budget administration (including clinical, educational, and research funds).

  • Masters degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA).

  • Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) credential.

  • Direct experience leading a surgical facility through initial design, state licensure, and accreditation processes.

  • Working knowledge of medical and dental billing compliance, RVU-based compensation models, research grant administration, and GME funding structures.

Responsibilities

Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) & Clinical Operations

  • Directs the physical development, procurement, and regulatory planning for the departmental ASC.

  • Secures and maintains necessary regulatory approvals, including AAAHC or Joint Commission accreditation, Medicare certification, and Texas DSHS licensure.

  • Oversees daily clinical operations, patient flow, and quality assurance programs within the outpatient facility.

  • Manages clinical supply chain operations, including vendor contract negotiation and inventory control for implants, hardware, and biologicals.

  • Coordinates clinical staffing models, including administration of the anesthesia service line and related staffing agreements.

Executive Administration & Hospital Relations

  • Acts as the primary executive proxy for the Department Head, executing high-level strategic initiatives, overseeing communications and managing day-to-day administrative executive tasks.

  • Serves as the primary administrative liaison between the department and the Dean's administration, ensuring that programs, activities, and services comply with University, State, and Federal regulations.

  • Partners with the Assistant Dean of Finance office to develop and manage the departments annual operating budgets, encompassing state educational funds, clinical revenue, hospital contracts, and research grant portfolios.

  • Manages the financial and operational aspects of affiliation agreements with partner hospitals, including trauma call coverage schedules and stipends.

Faculty Affairs & Academic Integration

  • Collaborates with the Department Head to cultivate an environment conducive to faculty growth, tracking academic and clinical productivity to support the tenure and promotion review process.

  • Oversee the administrative and financial management of departmental research, ensuring compliance with grant funding guidelines and optimizing resource allocation for principal investigators.

  • Collaborate with the Residency Program Manager to support the administrative functions of the department's residency and fellowship programs.

Financial Strategy & Revenue Cycle Collaboration

  • Works in a matrixed capacity with the Director of Revenue Cycle to ensure clinical operations align with university financial protocols.

  • Reviews the financial components of the professional services line
