The Role

Responsible for representing and protecting Fidelity in the drafting and negotiation of various types of agreements with Fidelity’s defined contribution clients. The Director of Contracts works with Sales, Relationship Management, Operations, Finance, Product Management, Compliance, Finance and Corporate Legal to reach the desired business goals of Fidelity, while managing legal/compliance risk for Fidelity.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Requires a JD

  • 5 to 8 years legal experience, involving contracts negotiation and drafting

  • You possess excellent problem-solving skills that will enable you to function as the primary representative in the resolution of complex negotiation issues with clients and their counsel (internal and external)

  • You take initiative in identifying and resolving contracting issues and in developing creative solutions that address client concerns and protect Fidelity

  • You mentor associates and develop a training program to increase the contract negotiation skills of junior associates. 

  • You serve in a client-facing capacity to resolve escalated contract negotiations. 

  • You have outstanding oral, written communications skills

  • You possess outstanding analytical, relationship management, negotiation and influence skills and are able to work collaboratively with Fidelity Corporate Legal, as well as with clients and their counsel

  • You successfully drive to completion the drafting and negotiation and execution of agreements on behalf of Fidelity’s Workplace Investing business with minimal supervision

  • You serve as the face of Fidelity in negotiations with clients and provide one of the first customer experiences for new clients

  • You use your analytic and creativity skills to find compromise in negotiations that meets the clients’ needs while still protecting Fidelity

  • You provide solutions and work closely with the business to support growth and retention

  • You provide leadership in the deals you negotiate and serve as a subject matter expert for contractual issues and questions from business partners

  • You create relationships across Fidelity and work closely with a team of professionals to deliver outstanding service to our business

The Team

The Contracts team is an organization of professionals who own the legal, risk and business contractual framework for trust and other service agreements with our Workplace Investing clients. We are part of the larger Workplace Investing Organization. We are client-facing associates who partner with the sales, relationship management, product management, compliance and internal legal teams in all phases of the contracting process. We strive to create strong client relationships, while protecting the firm from risk.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
