As Director, Assistant General Counsel, you will be a pivotal member of GEICO's Enterprise Litigation and Investigations Legal team. You will lead a team of lawyers who provide legal support for GEICO's Claims organization on insurance coverage and claims‑related litigation, including coverage disputes, extra‑contractual liability, and other complex disputes.Location: This is a hybrid role, on‑site 3 days per week at Bethesda, MD; New York, NY; or Cleveland, OH.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a team of lawyers who provide coverage advice, manage declaratory judgment actions, and handle claims‑related litigation involving coverage disputes, extra‑contractual liability, and other complex disputes.Lead efforts to identify and implement new solutions while optimizing existing solutions to streamline the operations of the Litigation and Investigations team and improve legal intake processes and workflows, focusing on efficiency and scalability.Track performance in the division with key metrics/KPIs and periodically provide reports to the Senior Director of Litigation.Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including underwriting and product, to drive business results and provide insights to improve the company's insurance products and minimize risks.Build relationships with key internal partners to better understand the business transformation and prepare for and execute related communications initiatives.Mentor, develop, and inspire a strong team of lawyers, including setting strategy and goals and providing development and leadership.Lead high‑level transformational projects and change management.Track and understand the external environment and advise business partners in the organization.QualificationsJuris Doctor from a recognized, accredited law school.7+ years of experience managing litigation, preferably at an insurance company.Experience with evaluating and managing risk and liability on claims‑related litigation.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with keen attention to detail.Strong analytical abilities and problem‑solving capabilities.Strategic judgment to assess risks and make informed decisions.Prior experience managing a team of legal professionals.Annual Salary$159,900.00 - $280,850.00At this time, GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.BenefitsComprehensive Total Rewards program that offers personalized coverage tailored to you and your family's well‑being.Financial benefits including market‑competitive compensation; a 401K savings plan vested from day one with a 6% match; performance and recognition‑based incentives; and tuition assistance.Access to additional benefits like mental healthcare, fertility and adoption assistance.Supports flexibility – the GEICO Flex program allows you to work from anywhere in the U.S. for up to four weeks per year.Equal Employment OpportunityThe equal employment opportunity policy of the GEICO Companies provides for a fair and equal employment opportunity for all associates and job applicants regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, familial status, disability or genetic information, in compliance with applicable federal, state and local law.
