POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of the Archaeology Institute oversees an active program centered on providing high-impact experiences for university students in archaeology (terrestrial and maritime) and community heritage, broadly conceived. The Director also oversees the Marine Research Center (MRC), which provides maritime vehicles and equipment, and logistical support for maritime-based projects and diving operations for UWF faculty and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in the field of Anthropology or appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and six years of experience advising, teaching, mentoring or significantly interacting with college students.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
This is work directing all programs and activities related to the UWF Archaeology Institute. Responsible to the Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CASSH). Directs a major department to insure that established goals and objectives are communicated and attained. Develops strategies, designs policies, and deploys resources to achieve objectives of the Archaeology Institute. Makes decisions that affect more than one college and department and sometimes the entire university. Closely articulates and coordinates with the UWF Department of Anthropology, UWF Historic Trust, and Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN). Applies highly developed creative problem solving skills and uses high-level persuasion and negotiation skills. Administers and plans budgets and controls expenditures. Plans, develops, and implements programs of assigned functions. May be asked to represent UWF at meetings and on committees. Specific job functions, position qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities are listed on the position''s job questionnaire. Minimum qualification requirements: Master''s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor''s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctoral degree in Anthropology or a closely related discipline (if other degree[s] are in Anthropology) is preferred. Successful candidate will have archaeological and community heritage project and grant management experience. Strong budgetary design and management experience expected. History of successful grantsmanship and contract experience expected. Successful candidate will have a well-formed approach to leadership roles they can articulate to Institute and MRC faculty and staff.
