YOU, Inc. is seeking experienced and dependable Direct Support Professional Supervisors to lead residential counselor staff in our 24-hour acute and congregate care programs. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, values teamwork, and is committed to creating safe, structured, and therapeutic spaces for youth.

As a Shift Supervisor, you’ll work in ratio alongside your team—guiding, coaching, and modeling best practices while ensuring the safety and well-being of both staff and youth.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and support residential counselor staff during assigned shifts

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and real-time guidance to staff

  • Ensure all staff receive critical updates, assignments, and shift expectations

  • Promote teamwork and address staff concerns promptly and professionally

Safety & Therapeutic Milieu

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of youth and staff at all times

  • Actively monitor the milieu, identify risks, and take corrective action as needed

  • Maintain appropriate client-to-staff ratios and coordinate relief staffing when necessary

  • Cultivate a therapeutic environment that supports emotional regulation, social growth, and positive behavior

Program Structure & Daily Operations

  • Ensure daily programming schedules and routines are followed

  • Support youth participation in activities, meals, chores, and daily living tasks

  • Participate in facility upkeep, room checks, and overall cleanliness of the unit

Boundaries, Ethics & Professionalism

  • Model and enforce appropriate physical, emotional, logistical, and informational boundaries

  • Uphold HIPAA requirements and protect client confidentiality

  • Maintain professional, respectful interactions with staff, youth, families, and visitors

Documentation & Compliance

  • Review treatment plans and safety plans as needed

  • Complete shift notes, logs, medication documentation, and incident reports

  • Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with agency standards

Crisis Prevention & Intervention

  • Utilize CPI de-escalation techniques to prevent and manage crisis situations

  • Apply physical management interventions only when necessary and in accordance with training

  • Approach all interactions through a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive lens

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma, GED, or HiSET required

  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • 1–3 years of related experience; residential youth experience required

  • Proven ability to lead calmly and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Strong communication, judgment, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build rapport and work effectively with staff and youth

  • Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and agency policies

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license (Class C or D), acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation

  • Willingness to maintain required certifications, including:

    • CPI / De-escalation & Physical Management

    • First Aid, CPR, and Universal Precautions

    • Medication Management / MAP

    • Van & Driver Safety
