Direct Support Professionals at Connections To Care provide support services to adults with intellectual disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Our mission is to help these individuals achieve their highest level of independence, focusing on one goal at a time. DSPs work in various settings, including residential homes and job sites, supporting individuals in their daily activities and community integration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Advocacy: Assist individuals in achieving personal goals and independence
2. Health Maintenance: Provide care, administer medications, and communicate with medical professionals
3. Personal Care: Help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as eating, grooming, and mobility
4. Living Skills Development: Support individuals in developing skills like cooking, money management, and household tasks
5. Behavior Development: Serve as a role model and mentor, using approved techniques to manage crisis and behavioral issues
6. Operational Support: Maintain cleanliness of program areas and follow policies for handling money
7. Professional Behavior: Communicate effectively, complete required training, and attend meetings
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid State driver's license
- Ability to pass background checks
- Basic computer skills
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and squatting
- Speak, read, and write in English
- Complete company training programs and pass competency tests
Working Conditions:
- Unconventional schedules (24/7, 365 days a year)
- Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens
