The Dining Center Worker promotes good health and well-being for older adults by assisting in organizing and coordinating activities at the congregate dining center to increase socialization

The Food Service Worker position pays $16.00/hour. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for dining room set up and clean up
  • Maintains list of reservations as needed
  • Participates in special community events, (i.e. health fairs, holiday luncheons)
  • Complies with federal and state program and health and safety regulations
  • Assists with assembling and portioning food as needed
  • Explains program and contribution system to first-time attendees
  • Encourages participant interest in available programming
  • Handles difficult participants with respect and effectiveness
  • Recognizes conditions or circumstances that affect participants health and/or safety and makes referrals to department staff where appropriate
  • Orients and oversees volunteers as to meal program regulation
  • Delegates responsibilities to volunteers
  • Effectively handles and respectfully encourages contributions, meeting all agency, state and federal guidelines
  • Understands and respectfully enforces program eligibility requirements
  • Educates participants as to the vital importance of their voluntary contributions
  • Ensures proper cash handling policies and procedures are followed; forwards contributions to Finance Department for deposit
Reporting:
  • Prepares participant attendance, financial, and meal count reports and other records according to requirements for program reporting
  • Follows data collection guidelines to ensure proper collection of required information for funding sources and other agency guidelines when signing up participants
  • Thoroughly inputs or completes and submits all required paperwork in an accurate, legible and timely manner, following agency guidelines
  • Compiles meal participation statistics, including number of meals served
  • Submits monthly report to the Aging Coordinator

  • Must assume the responsibility for meeting the transportation needs as required by the nature of the position.

  • Promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND two years experience working in human services with older adults or adults with disabilities preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as indicated above
Required skills and abilities:
  • Ability to communicate with tact and courtesy and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, and the general public
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Computer skills
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
Physical Demands:
Constantly:  Activity/condition exists from 2/3 or more of the time
  • Talks and listens to communicate in person and on the telephone
  • Uses vision to read and prepare paper and computerized reports
  • Stands to greet and assist clients
  • Sits at desk for completion of paperwork, reading, and computer work
Frequently:  Activity/condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
  • Stands to file and make photocopies
  • Walks in and around congregate site
  • Lifts and carries objects weighing 10 pounds  
Occasionally:  Activity/condition exists up to 1/3 of the time
  • Reaches to set tables, to file and retrieve paperwork
  • Stoops and bends to access file drawers
  • Lifts food supplies or materials weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Travels to work-related meetings and outside appointments
