The Prince George's County Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacant Digital Analyst (Investigator 1P), grade P18 position, in the Crime Scene Investigation Division, Computer Forensics.

About the position

The incumbent is assigned to the Computer Forensic Unit where he/she performs the primary duties of digital evidence collection, preservation, analysis, and documentation of items of evidence related to Criminal Investigations. This position requires that the incumbent respond to requests for services primarily from sworn members of the Criminal Investigations Division. The incumbent when requested will assist other Divisions within the County with specialized evidence collection services. The incumbent will document all evidence collection duties on the appropriate reports. This position requires testimony in the court system. The incumbent is required to work closely with prosecutors in the preparation of cases for trial. Work assignments require knowledge of Personnel Law, General Orders, and Departmental rules and regulations. The incumbent in this position should have the ability to communicate well with others. The incumbent in this position is authorized to carry out those duties and responsibilities in accordance with the established performance standards and is subject to reporting and justifying task outcomes to those above him/her in the Department's chain of command.

Examples of Work

  • Investigates homicides, rapes, armed robberies, departmental shootings, physical and sexual child abuse, and other major crime scenes to determine the best forensic practice based on interviews and forensic investigative techniques.
  • Collects, preserves, analyzes and documents digital evidence.
  • Functions as a support investigative and assistance body where there is digital evidence as a component of a crime, more specifically crimes against persons, electronic mail threats, computer intrusions; missing persons, narcotic violations, computer fraud.
  • Prepares reports detailing actions, examinations, processes, and evidence recovered.
  • Responds to crime scenes; assists in the execution of search and seizure warrants to recover digital devices and media, computer equipment and related computer documentation associated with the crime being investigated.
  • Provides technical support to ranking members on scene.
  • Completes all necessary training requirements to include in-service training, classes to maintain certifications, and other Departmental training as required.
  • Assists the Training and Education Division in the training of Prince Georges County recruit officers and Municipal Police Officers.
  • Attends court, both Circuit and District, on and off duty, and testifies in criminal cases which he/she has investigated or assisted in the investigation; attends Civil Court as a result of an investigative effort.
  • Performs tasks and duties assigned which may not be specifically listed within this position description willingly and cooperatively but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with this class of work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • Bachelors Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business, or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Highly eligible candidates will meet the criteria below to be further considered by the hiring agency:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Forensics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • CFCE Certification, CCE Certification, or similar certification
  • Thorough knowledge documenting, preserving, imaging, and analyzing digital evidence
  • Knowledge of computer systems and analysis software, including FTK, Encase, Cellebrite and Magnet Axiom

General Plan Information:

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren).
