Digital Accessibility Associate | Remote Phoenix, Arizona

We believe information should be accessible to everyone. We are looking for a detail-oriented Digital Accessibility Associate to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the bridge between digital documents and the people who need to read them. By transforming PDFs into fully compliant, accessible documents, you will ensure every Arizonan has equal access to critical government resources.

We need someone who is thorough, precise, and ready to make a meaningful impact.

What Success Looks Like

  • The Goal: Take ownership of document remediation and ensure digital documents meet strict WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA accessibility standards.
  • The Impact: Your work will enable individuals using screen readers and other assistive technologies to access vital information. You won't just be fixing files-you'll be removing barriers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Digital Accessibility Associate, you will use specialized software to identify and resolve accessibility issues in PDF documents. This includes making documents usable for people with disabilities by:

  • Adding and managing document tags
  • Ensuring proper reading order
  • Providing alternative text (alt text) for images
  • Correcting structural and formatting issues
  • Ensuring compliance with WCAG and PDF/UA accessibility standards

Tools & Technology

You will work with tools such as:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Grackle
  • Other PDF remediation and accessibility software

These tools are used to add semantic structure to documents, making them understandable and accessible to assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: You notice the extra space, misaligned margin, or missing tag that others overlook.
  • Analytical Mindset: You enjoy evaluating complex layouts and determining the most logical reading structure.
  • Software Proficiency: You quickly learn new software applications and are comfortable navigating unfamiliar tools and workflows.
  • Process-Oriented: You can follow detailed project requirements, accessibility standards, and compliance guidelines with consistency and accuracy.
  • Business Software Experience: Demonstrated experience using common business software applications and productivity tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building web pages or working with HTML and CSS.
  • Understanding of HTML table structures (e.g., the tag).
  • Knowledge of Title II of the ADA and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Accessibility certifications such as IAAP CPACC or equivalent.
  • Experience using Grackle and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
