Diesel Mechanic
Gary, IN
Shift - Mon- Friday 1st or 2nd shift
Pay - $28-$38 per hour
Requirements:
- Servicing of gasoline and diesel powered buses from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service
- Diagnose mechanical defects and carries out a preventive maintenance program
- Major and minor overhaul of engines and transmissions
- Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems and Wheel Chair lifts
- Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units
- Inspects and repairs school buses per DOT requirements
- Keep records of time and materials used
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Medium duty bus experience, International Truck/Bus preferred
- Must have own set of tools
- Knowledge of the provisions of codes and laws relating to pupil transportation (i.e. IDOT inspections)CDL class B License with air brake endorsement preferred A/C Certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion in a timely manner
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance as attendance is an essential function of the position
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
