Compensation:
$25/hr-$35/hr
Schedule: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM, Mon–Fri; every other Saturday, 9 AM – 1 PM.
(40-45 hours per week)
Job Summary:
As a Diesel Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, drivelines, chassis, and heavy-duty systems on trucks and other commercial vehicles. You will work in the main shop and may assist with field/mobile service calls as needed. Your expertise will support both preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to keep their customers’ vehicles safe, reliable, and roadworthy.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, axles, drive shafts, differentials, and related components.
- Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, filters, fluid checks, belts, hoses, cooling systems, and general inspections.
- Repair or replace suspensions, leaf springs, U-bolts, frames, spindles, steering, and braking systems.
- Work on driveline and driveline alignment (driveshaft balancing, yoke inspection, U-joint replacement).
- Read and interpret technical manuals, diagnostic software, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform welding, fabrication, or structural repairs as needed (frame repair, reinforcement).
- Perform road tests to verify repairs and ensure vehicle performance after service.
- Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and organization in the shop.
- Keep accurate service records, work orders, time logs, parts usage, and report performed operations.
- Assist with parts ordering, inventory, and tool management.
- Occasionally assist with mobile service calls or on-site repairs as needed.
- Mentor or assist less-experienced technicians where applicable.
Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a diesel/ heavy-duty technician or mechanic.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic ability.
- Experience working on heavy trucks, trailers, or commercial vehicles (diesel engines, transmissions, axles, drive train, suspension systems).
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, scan tools, torque wrenches, and heavy tools safely and accurately.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.
- Able to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
- Good physical condition: capable of lifting heavy loads, bending, climbing, working in confined spaces, and standing for long periods.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass drug screening and background check (if required).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Preferred (but not required)- Certifications such as ASE Diesel, CDL (Class B or higher), or manufacturer-specific credentials.
- Experience with mobile or field repair for heavy-duty vehicles.
- Experience in suspension and frame repair, especially heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands- Primarily shop environment with exposure to high noise, fumes, dirt, grease, and changing weather (if working outside or on mobile jobs).
- Use of mechanic’s hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, lifts, jacks, hoists, etc.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver parts and equipment up to (e.g.) 50–100 lbs or more regularly.
- Occasional overtime, weekend work, or emergency calls depending on business needs.
- May involve travel within service area for mobile repair jobs.
