JOB OVERVIEW
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs skilled mechanical work in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of fleet equipment. With regular attendance, this position conducts preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs while adhering to safety standards and specifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or G.E.D.
3 years of work experience as a heavy-duty truck/equipment mechanic in a full-service diesel shop.
Have and maintain a valid Driver's License with a CDL-B endorsement (or ability to obtain endorsement within 3 months of hire), as well as meet eligibility requirements of "acceptable driving standards" as defined by the County.
Must supply and maintain own tools. Minimum of:
¼" to ½" Ratchets
¼" to ½" Sockets
Wrenches <1 ½"
Toolbox
Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift certification through the National Safety Council within 6 months of employment.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random DOT drug testing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment is in a fleet maintenance facility and regularly involves working around vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and mechanical components. The employee may be exposed to noise, moving machinery, oils, grease, and other automotive fluids. Duties may require working in varying temperatures, including hot, cold, or humid conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, eye protection and other protective gear may be required when working in the shop or handling materials to ensure personal safety and compliance with established health and safety regulations. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. Employees must occasionally lift 50-100 pounds of force, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly.

Hours of this position are typically M-F 7:00 am -3:30 pm. (Labor Day through Memorial Day - Winter Hours) and M-F 6:00 am - 2:30 p.m. (Memorial Day through Labor Day - Summer Hours). Are you able to meet the hours requirement of this position?

Must supply and maintain own tools. Minimum of 1/4" to 1/2" Rachets, 1/4" to 1/2" Sockets, and Wrenches of <1 1/2". Are you able to meet this requirement?
