Job Summary
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and transportation equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on engines, brakes, transmissions, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on diesel trucks and trailers.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Inspect vehicles to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, steering components, and fuel systems.
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Utilize diagnostic software and tools to troubleshoot vehicle issues.
- Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately.
- Respond to road service calls and emergency repairs when needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Work closely with drivers and operations personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous diesel mechanic experience required.
- Experience working on Class A trucks, trailers, and transportation equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and schematics.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and vehicle inspections.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in a shop environment.
