Position Title: Device Services Specialist

Terms of Employment: 12 Month Position

Evaluated By: Director of Technology

Job Summary

The Device Services Specialist must be highly organized, a very strong communicator and facilitator, as well as a technical resource for all district devices, both students and faculty.

Employment Requirements

Preferred Bachelor's Degree; minimum Associate's Degree and/or equivalent experience

Minimum of three technical certifications required (Google, Microsoft, AWS, etc.)

Apple Technician Device Certifications as needed.

Project Management certification (ex. CompTia Project+).

Essential Job Duties

  1. Leadership and Vision

Works closely with the Director of Technology/Network Engineer to support the vision for how technology will be used to meet the district's strategic goals

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Ability to manage and prioritize the technology needs of their schools

Interpersonal skills and a willingness to work closely with all constituents

Ability to adapt known technologies to new uses and envision natural relationships between emerging technology resources and the education process

Understanding of the change process and effective approaches to facilitating change

  1. Systems Management

Coordinates and ensures the implementation of all tasks related to: the technical systems installed in the schools and the integration of technology into every facet of operations

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Knowledge and expertise about the software and performance standards for all aspects of the IT system and district device services.

Strong technical background accompanied by a personal commitment to ongoing research and learning.

  1. Technical Services and Device Management

Coordinates and ensures the implementation of all tasks related to all district devices, device distribution and collection services, warranty/repair services, asset management of all technology inventory, and technician scheduling and management duties as needed.

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Knowledge and expertise in collaborating, communicating with faculty, staff and students on device services and support is required.

Organizational skills in managing multiple areas of departmental functions. (Example would be communication of device distribution and collection with all building leaders and teachers.)

Strong technical background accompanied by a personal commitment to ongoing research and learning in all aspects of our department goals and strategies.

  1. Business Leadership

Assists the Director of Technology with purchasing decisions and fosters good relationships with vendors, potential funders and other key groups

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Collaborates with district members and assists with developing ongoing projects

Comfort in researching products and assists in making purchasing decisions when requested by the Director of Technology

  1. Education and Training

Coordinates ongoing, purposeful professional development for school staff in the use of new technologies

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Current understanding of technical best practices and the appropriate uses of technology to support high-caliber technology support

Awareness of technology-related professional growth needs of the department members and the ability to respond to these needs, including providing "just in time" opportunities to remain current on technical content

  1. Ethics and Policies

Assists with the implementation and enforcement of policies and educational programs related to the social, legal and ethical issues involved in technology use throughout the district

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Knowledge about laws and legal issues related to copyright, privacy, filtering and other aspects of school technology use

Awareness of other relevant issues including safety, technology-related health concerns and guidelines for fair and ethical implementation of technology

Commitment to modeling responsible technology use and working closely with all constituents

  1. Communication Systems

Assists and maintains the use of e-mail, district websites, voicemail systems and other forms of communication technology; effective communication with all staff and other key stakeholders

Knowledge or Skills Required:

Working knowledge of various communication tools

Understanding of web design and support issues and the staffing needed to keep district and school sites updated and operational

Knowledge about converging technologies and new options for enhancing communication through technology

Strong communication skills
