Development & Marketing Director

Purpose

The Development & Marketing Director provides strategic leadership for The NOAH Center's fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement functions. In partnership with the Executive Director, this position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive revenue-generation strategies, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, planned-giving, special events, and donor stewardship initiatives.

The Director leads all organizational marketing and communications efforts, ensuring a consistent and compelling brand presence across digital, print, media, and community channels. This role oversees the development of content and campaigns that advance the organization's mission, strengthen public awareness, increase donor engagement, and support organizational growth.

As a member of the leadership team, the Development & Marketing Director collaborates closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, and the Board of Directors to expand philanthropic support, enhance organizational visibility, and achieve strategic objectives. The position is responsible for departmental planning, budgeting, performance measurement, staff supervision, volunteer engagement, and the effective management of development and marketing resources.

Education and Experience

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must meet all the requirements in The NOAH Center's WSP WATCH Background Check Policy.
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, fundraising, or a related field.
• Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, marketing, communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or management experience, with demonstrated leadership, team development, and organizational management skills.
• Proven history of achieving and sustaining fundraising growth, including expanding donor engagement, increasing donor retention, securing new funding sources, and meeting or exceeding annual revenue goals.
• Preferred knowledge of animal welfare industry.
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms and their potential use as marketing tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, donor management databases (CRM systems), website content management systems, and standard business software applications.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with the ability to attend community events and meetings as needed.

FLSA Classification

• Exempt, Regular, full-time
• Compensation: $105,000 - $135,000 annual salary DOE
• Schedule varies and includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays
• On-site position

Skills

• Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, planned-giving, donor stewardship, and special events.
• Demonstrated success in securing funding through grants, major gifts, sponsorships, and individual donor contributions.
• Ability to plan, organize, and execute fundraising events from concept through completion, including logistics, budgeting, and post-event evaluation.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including grant writing, proposal development, donor communications, public presentations, and content creation.
• Experience developing and executing marketing, branding, public relations, community outreach, and communications strategies across print, digital, social media, email, and website platforms.
• Strong editing, research, analytical, and data interpretation skills, with the ability to evaluate fundraising and marketing performance metrics and prepare reports that support strategic decision-making.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, supervise, develop, and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
• Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with donors, board members, volunteers, community partners, media representatives, and staff.
• Strong budgeting, financial management, resource allocation, and reporting skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, solve problems effectively, and represent the organization professionally in public settings.

Work Environment

• Position is primarily office-based, with occasional participation in offsite events and activities.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, carry, and lift up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Regular interaction with animals in a shelter environment; comfort working around animals is required.
• Exposure to moderate noise levels, animal dander, and potential animal-related hazards, including bites, scratches, and zoonotic diseases.
• Must comply with organizational dress code and safety requirements.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and hours beyond the regular schedule as needed to support organizational events and operational needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Development

• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive fundraising program, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, planned-giving, special events, and other revenue-generating initiatives.
• Serve as the primary coordinator for all organizational fundraising solicitations, including monetary and in-kind contributions.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to establish annual development goals, strategies, and performance metrics.
• Lead and oversee the execution of fundraising plans to achieve organizational revenue objectives and support long-term sustainability.
• Cultivate, steward, and strengthen relationships with donors, sponsors, community partners, and other stakeholders to expand support for The NOAH Center's mission.
• Identify, pursue, and develop new funding opportunities, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
• Develop, implement, and grow a planned giving program that supports long-term organizational fundraising goals.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers who assist with development activities, fundraising events, and community engagement efforts.
• Establish and maintain development policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effective operations, accurate recordkeeping, donor stewardship, and fulfillment of sponsorship benefits.
• Oversee the daily operations of the development function, including donor and sponsor communications, acknowledgments, budgeting, reporting, fundraising events, publications, and website-related fundraising content.
• Represent The NOAH Center at community events, donor meetings, and public engagements to increase visibility and support for the organization.
• Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, decision-making, and overall operational management.

Special Events

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for The NOAH Center's fundraising and community events, including the annual Benefit Auctions and other special events.
• Lead event planning, coordination, and execution to ensure successful fundraising outcomes, positive donor experiences, and alignment with organizational goals.
• Manage event logistics, timelines, budgets, registration processes, volunteer coordination, attendee records, payment processing, and post-event evaluation.
• Oversee the development and production of event-related materials, including catalogs, signage, promotional materials, registration packets, and other event communications.
• Coordinate event technology needs and systems to support registration, attendee tracking, auctions, fundraising activities, and reporting.
• Facilitate and participate in event planning meetings, including agenda development, project tracking, documentation, and timely follow-up on action items.
• Collaborate with staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and community partners to ensure successful event planning and execution.

Marketing & Communications Responsibilities

• Lead the Marketing Committee in the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual marketing, communications, and fundraising plans, including tracking and reporting on key performance metrics.
• Develop and manage integrated marketing and fundraising campaigns, including direct mail appeals, email marketing, digital communications, and donor engagement initiatives.
• Oversee the creation, production, and distribution of marketing and promotional materials, including brochures, flyers, newsletters, annual reports, and other organizational communications.
• Manage organizational email marketing platforms and communication databases to support donor cultivation, stewardship, and community engagement efforts.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and development staff to create and implement marketing strategies that support fundraising goals and enhance organizational visibility.
• Develop and coordinate internal communications, reports, and informational materials for staff, volunteers, leadership, and the Board of Directors.
• Lead the implementation and ongoing management of organizational branding standards, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all communications and training staff and volunteers on brand guidelines as needed.
• Provide marketing and communications support to all departments, developing promotional materials, campaigns, and outreach strategies that increase awareness, engagement, participation, and support for organizational programs and services.

Digital Communications

• Develop and implement The NOAH Center's digital communications strategy across social media and website platforms to promote the organization's mission, programs, events, and impact.
• Create, curate, and publish timely, engaging, and mission-aligned content across digital channels, translating organizational activities and updates into clear and effective communications for external audiences and stakeholders.
• Manage and grow online engagement by fostering relationships with supporters, community partners, and digital audiences to expand organizational reach and visibility.
• Ensure all digital communications are accurate, professional, accessible, and consistent with organizational branding and messaging, particularly when addressing sensitive topics related to animals, services, and populations served.
• Capture, edit, organize, and manage photographic and visual content for use across websites, social media, and marketing materials, maintaining a structured digital asset archive.
• Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, usability, and alignment with branding standards, including updates to announcements, events, operational information, staff listings, and program content.
• Regularly review website content and remove outdated or redundant materials to ensure a current, user-friendly, and effective online presence.
• Lead coordination of website development, redesign, or enhancement projects, partnering with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure successful planning, execution, and implementation of site improvements.

Other duties

• Support volunteer engagement efforts by assisting with recruitment, coordination, and assignment of volunteers for special projects and organizational needs.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and organizational planning sessions as required.
• Provide timely, professional communication and follow-up via email, phone, and other organizational communication channels.
• Offer responsive support to staff and volunteers by addressing questions and assisting with operational needs during high-demand periods or staffing shortages.
• Contribute thoughtful input and feedback in a professional manner to support continuous improvement and organizational effectiveness.
