POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of a Designer/Detailer is to participate in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design vessel systems and components which meet requirements set forth in the vessel specification, creating models, Lofted parts, nests, drawings, and detailed bills of materials.
- Design and develop ship detail design package from concept to completion
- Participate in build planning and maintain product hierarchy
- Perform basic calculations required for system and component design/outfitting.
- Support production personnel during construction phase of project.
- Manage and maintain Ship Constructor databases, block libraries, standards documents and work procedures.
- Participate in sea trials of completed vessels.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations and circumstances. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the organization and outside of the organization is essential in this role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Very strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred.
- Must be detail oriented and able to work with extremely tight specifications.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
- Experience must include good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical and outfit details.
- Capable of clear effective communications, creative problem solving, and working well with others of all levels of authority and technical knowledge.
- Must be highly organized and have excellent documentation skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fifteen (15) years of marine experience required, experience in vessel design and construction preferred.
- Experience and familiarity with CFR, IACS Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts is preferred.
