Designer I – Sewer & Stormwater Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (hours may vary)
Detail-driven problem solver who enjoys turning data into real-world infrastructure solutions and seeing projects come to life.
What You'll Do
You'll support the planning, design, and construction of sewer and stormwater projects that directly impact the safety and sustainability of Fort Wayne. Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you'll help move projects from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design and engineering of sewer and stormwater projects using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools • Gather, verify, and analyze field data, system information, and design inputs for project development • Assist with project tracking, schedules, budgets, and reporting using PMIS • Coordinate permits, easements, and pre-bid activities to keep projects moving forward • Prepare reports, draft plans, and recommend system improvements for review by engineering leadership
What You Bring | Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related ABET-accredited program • Ability to meet Engineer Intern (EI) requirements upon passing FE exam • Basic experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Certifications
- Engineer Intern (EI) certification or progress toward FE exam • Valid Indiana Driver's License
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design software • Basic understanding of hydraulics, hydrology, and engineering principles • Ability to read and interpret surveys, plans, and technical documents • Strong communication skills for working with teams and the public
